Itβs Guinea Pig Awareness Week! πΉ
Here at RSPCA Isle of Wight, weβre shining a spotlight on these adorable little characters and the care they need to live happy, healthy lives! π₯°
Guinea pigs may be small, but their needs are big! Here are a few important things every guinea pig owner should know:
πΏ Company matters! Guinea pigs are sociable animals and should usually live with at least one compatible guinea pig friend.
π₯¬ Hay, hay and more hay! Good-quality hay should make up the majority of their diet and be available at all times to keep their digestive systems healthy and their teeth in good condition.
π‘ Room to roam! They need plenty of space to run, explore, play and stretch their little legs, along with cosy hiding places where they can feel safe.
π©Ί Health checks are essential. Regular checks and prompt veterinary care help keep your guinea pigs feeling their best. Check out our clinic dates here: https://www.rspca-isleofwight.org.uk/events/rabbit-and-guinea-pig-clinics/
β€οΈ They need time and patience. Guinea pigs can be nervous little souls, so gentle handling and time to build trust are important.
Guinea pigs are wonderful companions, but they rely on us to understand their needs and give them the very best care. This Guinea Pig Awareness Week, letβs help spread the word and make life better for these lovely little animals! πΉπ
