It really blows my mind sometimes what we have sitting right on our doorstep here in Wales. I’m currently working at the Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff with another one of our volunteers (separate work) for a concert held here. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Christian worship on this site goes back to the 6th century (founded around 560AD by Saint Teilo), with the Norman cathedral we see foundations of today started around 1120 under Bishop Urban. It has survived everything from Owain Glyndŵr’s rebellion and the English Civil War to a direct landmine hit during the 1941 Blitz - and it’s still standing, fully restored, quiet, and stunning.

People travel thousands of miles across the globe to explore history like that, and for us, it’s just down the road.

Wales literally has over 600 castles - more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world. But it’s not just the fortresses and ancient cathedrals. We have:
✅ Ancient caves and underground mines
✅ Rugged mountain ranges and national parks
✅ Historic slate quarries steeped in industrial heritage
✅ Miles of world-class coastline, dramatic cliffs, and golden beaches
✅ Vast native forestry, waterfalls, and hidden valleys

Everything is packed into this one country. We genuinely have it all right here - sometimes you just need to step back, look around, and appreciate it.

Back here again tomorrow - appreciating every second I get.

Guatemala’s "Volcano of Fire" showed significant activity yesterday, generating powerful explosive pulses, towering ash plumes, and shockwaves felt across surrounding communities.

Here is what was recorded on the ground:
🔹 Massive Ash Plumes: Consecutive explosions sent dense columns of gray ash and volcanic gas soaring up to 4,700 meters (15,420 ft) above sea level, drifting downwind across nearby valleys.
🔹 Ground Rumblings & Shockwaves: Low-frequency acoustic waves rattled roofs, windows, and doors in nearby villages, accompanied by deep roaring sounds resembling jet engines.
🔹 Incandescent Ejections: Glowing lava blocks launched hundreds of meters above the crater rim, feeding glowing avalanches down southern and southwestern ravines (barrancas).
🔹 Ashfall Confirmed: Fine ash fallout blanketed several settlements, including Panimaché I & II, Morelia, Santa Sofía, El Porvenir, Sangre de Cristo, and San Pedro Yepocapa.
🔹 Lahar Risk: With regional rainfall, disaster authorities (CONRED & INSIVUMEH) have issued warnings for fast-moving volcanic mudflows (lahares) down the Seca, Ceniza, and Las Lajas drainages.

Thunder & Lightning has been detected just off the Pembrokeshire Coast, Ceredigion & Powys. Heavy rain is falling, travel with caution - Remember: Wipers on? Lights on.

The yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place until 10pm this evening.

🔹 Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
🔹 Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
🔹 Some communities might become cut off if roads flood
🔹 Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes
🔹 Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

ℹ️ Accumulations of 20-30mm in an hour is possible locally, while 30 to 40mm can be expected fairly widely and up to 50mm in a 12 hour period in places. There is a small chance that some places may see more than 50mm in three hours and more than 75mm through 12 hours, especially over east facing high ground. Take a plate like CA17 XYZ — here’s the complete cheat sheet.

📅 PART 1: THE AGE IDENTIFIER (The 2 Numbers)
The two digits in the middle reveal the exact 6-month window the car hit the road:

🌊 We’re asking residents to prepare for flooding as a precautionary measure - this is an unofficial warning from SARS Cymru to residents. Due to dry land, significant rainfall in a short period will result in localised flooding.

🚘 If travelling tonight (26/08) and tomorrow (27/08), allow extra travel time - Remember, wipers on? Lights on. Keep your distance from the vehicle in front.

✅ We’re currently on the border of Ceredigion & Pembrokeshire - we can see the storm front from here with the occasional flashes.
