🚨🚗 URGENT VEHICLE SAFETY RECALL – FORD KUGA OWNERS 🚗🚨

⚠️ POTENTIAL FIRE RISK, AIRBAG FAILURE & LOSS OF POWER WHILST DRIVING

SARS Cymru is making motorists across Wales aware of an important product safety recall issued by Ford Motor Company, affecting certain Ford Kuga vehicles.

The recall concerns a potentially dangerous electrical wiring defect which could result in serious vehicle safety issues, including an increased risk of fire.

⚠️ WHAT IS THE SAFETY CONCERN?
Ford has identified a potential defect involving the vehicle’s electrical wiring harness behind the instrument panel. A fixing screw and push nut may come into contact with the wiring, potentially causing damage and resulting in:
🔴 Fire Risk: Damaged electrical wiring could cause a short circuit, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.
🔴 Loss of Power: Vehicles could unexpectedly lose driving power whilst travelling, potentially displaying a “Stop safely now” warning.
🔴 Airbag Malfunction: Damage could affect the airbag system, potentially preventing airbags from operating correctly during a collision.
🔴 Safety System Failures: Electronic safety features, including stability control, emergency eCall, Lane Keeping Aid and Pre-Collision Assist, could be affected.
🔴 Dashboard Warnings: Drivers may experience warning messages relating to affected electrical systems.

🚨 WHAT SHOULD FORD KUGA OWNERS DO?
✅ Check whether your vehicle is subject to the recall using the official GOV UK vehicle recall checker.
✅ If you receive a recall notification, contact an authorised Ford dealership without delay to arrange the necessary inspection and repairs.
✅ Recall-related inspections and repairs are normally carried out free of charge.
✅ Do not ignore dashboard warnings, particularly those relating to airbags, electrical systems or vehicle power.
✅ If your vehicle displays a “Stop safely now” warning, pull over safely as soon as possible and seek appropriate assistance.

IMPORTANT: Ford’s recall letter states that it has not issued a general instruction to stop driving affected vehicles. However, owners are advised to arrange the necessary remedial work at the earliest opportunity and must ensure their vehicle remains safe to drive.

⚠️ PLEASE, DO NOT BE ALARMED

During the exercise, members of the public may notice:
🔹 Fire engines and emergency service vehicles attending the premises
🔹 Flashing blue emergency lights
🔹 Firefighters operating in and around the building
🔹 Smoke appearing to come from the premises as part of the simulated exercise

This is a pre-planned training exercise, and there is no actual emergency associated with the scheduled activity. These exercises provide firefighters with valuable opportunities to practise operational procedures, develop their skills and prepare for real-life emergency incidents in realistic environments.

SARS Cymru recognises the importance of regular emergency service training in maintaining public safety and strengthening community resilience.

We encourage residents to share this notice, particularly with those living or working near Circles Nightclub, to help prevent unnecessary concern during the exercise.

🚗💡 ROAD SAFETY REMINDER | LIGHTS ON, STAY VISIBLE! 💡🚗

As we head into the darker autumn and winter months, we are reminding motorists across Wales to check their vehicle lighting and NOT to rely entirely on automatic headlights or windscreen wipers.

🌧️ IF YOUR WIPERS ARE ON, MAKE SURE YOUR LIGHTS ARE ON!

During periods of heavy rain, mist, fog and poor visibility, your vehicle may be much harder for other road users to see, even during daylight hours.

⚠️ A FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
🔹 Automatic Headlights: Don’t assume your headlights will automatically activate during heavy rain or poor visibility. Some systems rely on light sensors and may not recognise reduced visibility caused by weather conditions.
🔹 Daytime Running Lights (DRLs): These are NOT a substitute for dipped headlights. Many vehicles have daytime running lights at the front but no illuminated rear lights, leaving you less visible to drivers approaching from behind.
🔹 Windscreen Wipers: If the weather is bad enough to require your windscreen wipers, consider whether your dipped headlights should also be switched on. Don’t assume your vehicle will do this automatically.
🔹 Check Your Lights: Take a few minutes to check your headlights, brake lights, indicators, fog lights and rear lights are working correctly.
🔹 Fog Lights: Only use your front or rear fog lights when visibility is seriously reduced, and remember to switch them off when visibility improves.

🚨 REMEMBER: Under the Highway Code, you MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres.

💡 BE SEEN. BE SAFE. STAY ALERT.

Whether you’re travelling along rural roads, busy town centres, dual carriageways or motorways, ensuring your vehicle is visible to others could prevent a serious collision.

We’ve seen a major increase in vehicles not using their lights appropriately - Don’t just rely on your vehicle’s technology. Take responsibility and check your lights.

A simple check could make a significant difference & save a life.
