Pendyrus Male Choir One of the oldest established choirs in Wales Wales, traditionally the “Land of Song”, is renowned for its “male voice choirs”.

These have flourished since the late 19th Century, particularly in the coal-mining valleys of the south and the slate-quarrying areas of the north, and, for over 90 years, Pendyrus has been one of the foremost names among them. Pendyrus Male Choir performs throughout the British Isles and overseas. It undertakes fee-paying and charity engagements, and is available for concerts, after-dinner and corporate entertainment, and national and promotional events. The Welsh choir is a member of the Welsh Music Guild, and of the Welsh Amateur Music Federation, from which it receives financial assistance, and is supported by a Lottery grant from the Arts Council of Wales, and by grants from the Communities First Trust Fund and Menter Iaith.

In very difficult weather conditions, Pendyrus Male Choir took to the road once again on Saturday 24th October 2026 to perform in the stunningly beautiful Sherborne Abbey performing alongside the fantastic Sherborne Town Band

A great evening was had by all performers and the audience who also braved some horrendous weather conditions to join us and give us a standing ovation for both organisations at the end of what was a fantastic evening of music making. 🎼🎶🎵

🕊️ A moment of reflection as we remember Aberfan. 🕊️

💔 In Loving Memory of Aberfan 💔

Today marks the 60th Anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster — a tragedy that forever changed Wales.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

At 9:13am on 21st October 1966, a coal spoil from tip 7 collapsed onto Pantglas Junior School, taking the lives of 116 children and 28 adults.

On this solemn day, we at Pendyrus Male Choir, along with the whole of Wales, pause to remember those beautiful lives lost, their families, and the resilient community of Aberfan who endured such unimaginable heartbreak.

In their memory, we perform the powerful hymn “Aberystwyth” (translated as “Jesus, Lover of My Soul”), which was the second hymn sung during so many of the funerals that followed. Through this performance, we honour their memory and promise never to forget.

🎶 Performed by: Pendyrus Male Choir
🎵 Musical Director: Ieuan Jones
🎹 Accompanist: Meryn Williams
🎼 Organist: David Geoffrey Thomas

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families, survivors, and all who continue to carry the memory of Aberfan in their hearts.♥️

May they all rest in eternal peace.

🕯️ ABERFAN — 60 YEARS ON 🕯️
21 October 1966 – 21 October 2026

Today, Pendyrus Male Choir pauses to remember one of the darkest and most heartbreaking days in the history of Wales.

Sixty years ago, on the morning of 21 October 1966, the village of Aberfan was changed forever.

116 children and 28 adults lost their lives.

Behind those numbers were children with futures ahead of them, parents, teachers, families, friends and a close-knit Welsh community whose lives would never be the same again.

For those of us from the South Wales valleys, Aberfan is more than a chapter in our history. It is part of our collective memory — a tragedy that has echoed through generations and one that must never be forgotten.

As a Welsh male choir, we understand the extraordinary strength of community: people standing together in times of celebration, but also standing shoulder to shoulder through unimaginable sorrow. In the aftermath of Aberfan, the courage, dignity and resilience shown by the community touched not only Wales, but the world.

Today, sixty years later, we remember the children who never had the opportunity to grow old. We remember the adults who lost their lives alongside them. We remember the families who carried an unimaginable grief, and all those whose lives were forever changed by that terrible morning.

From every chorister, officer and supporter of Pendyrus Male Choir, our thoughts are with the people of Aberfan and with all those who continue to carry its memory.

May Wales never forget them.

116 children.
28 adults.
144 lives.
Forever remembered.

Er cof am byth. 🕯️
