The Mayor of Lancaster launches Christmas card competition
[Previous winners have been from Upper Lune Valley!]
Mayor Councillor Margaret Pattison is inviting primary school children from across the district to get creative and help spread some festive cheer by designing her official Christmas card.
The winning design will be sent to a number of important people on behalf of Lancaster City Council — including His Majesty the King.
She said: “I am really excited about receiving the entries produced by the children of our district for my Christmas card competition. I know I will love all of the pictures, so it’ll be a tricky decision to choose just one.”
To enter the competition your design should:
• Be on a piece of A4 paper of any colour
• Use strong colours but avoid using glitter
• Not have things stuck on to it – they don’t copy well
• Include their name, age, address and telephone number on the back
Designs should be sent to the Mayor’s Office, Town Hall, Lancaster, LA1 1PJ by 21 November 2025.
The winning artist will be invited to Lancaster Town Hall with up to nine guests for a special meet-and-greet with the Mayor. They’ll enjoy a guided tour of the historic building and receive a framed copy of their design.

Bin changes! Happening this week onwards in ULV.
Why? Our recycling rates are poor, and need improving; the old recycling bins have caused too many back injuries to our bin staff; there is far too much food wasted.
Normal bins this week!
Expect the new machine liftable red and yellow top bins to arrive this week onwards (ULV covers such a wide area, not every village will be this week); old square bins, and surplus large green and/or grey ones, will be removed separately soon after; food waste collection starts in February.

"A second set of teams will be out in the same area delivering residents new 240 wheelie bins, each bin will have in the lid a product label showing what goes in the bin and an address label on the front of the bin with the resident’s address on.
We will have Waste Engagement and Consultation Officers with the crews that will engage with residents who have space/access issues or have a particular concern over the changes.
If you have any questions or queries, please send an email to [email protected] ".. or try me.
Best wishes as ever
Ross Hunter
