We are pleased to be launching a new series of Signalong training videos developed by SEND IASS North Northants, designed to support communication for children and young people with additional needs.

Signalong is a signโ€‘supported communication system that uses key word signs alongside speech. It is widely used to support children and young people who may have communication difficulties, including those with learning difficulties, autism, or speech and language needs.

By combining signs with spoken language, Signalong can help to improve understanding, promote expression, and reduce frustration where verbal communication alone may be challenging.

These videos, delivered by our trainer Sara, provide simple and practical guidance to help parents, carers, and professionals build confidence in using Signalong in everyday situations.

We hope these resources will offer a helpful starting point for those looking to develop their skills further. Weโ€™ll be sharing the videos from today (with our first being an introduction to Signalong) and we look forward to hearing how you find them! ๐Ÿคฉ

Learning Disability Week 2026, is now taking place from Monday 15th June to Sunday 21st June. This yearโ€™s theme is, โ€œ๐——๐—ผ ๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฒ?โ€.

A learning disability affects the way a person understands and processes information, learns new skills, and manages everyday activities. Every individualโ€™s experience is different, and this week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of recognition, inclusion and ensuring that people are listened to and supported across all areas of their lives.

This week, we aim to support by sharing information, guidance and practical resources to help families better understand their rights, navigate services and access the support available to them.

If you are a young person or parent carer of a child or young person with a learning disability, we would welcome hearing from you about what they enjoy, their achievements, and what you feel needs to improve locally.

Our guide has been developed to support parents and carers at every stage of the process, from understanding tribunal jurisdiction to what happens before, during, and after a hearing.

The guide covers:
๐Ÿ”ถ Key deadlines and time limits.
๐Ÿ”ถ What evidence to prepare.
๐Ÿ”ถ Essential documents and processes.
๐Ÿ”ถ What to expect at the hearing.

It is designed to help families feel informed, prepared and confident when advocating for their child or young person.
