Wrapping up our final full day, Day 4 gave our Cadets an opportunity to show off their drilling skills 🚶, learn about survival at sea, and do land navigation at the beautiful Mount Edgcumb Park. We've had a full week, a tiring week, but a rewarding week. Well done to all our Cadets for absolutely smashing every event!

Yesterday completed Day 2 of Royal Navy Experience ⚓ week - and what a day it was! Our Cadets took a boat tour around Plymouth Sound, with Cadets even taking the helm of the catamaran. We visited the HMS Somerset, 🛥 and rounded off the day with a free swim session. A few Cadets even attempted (and passed!) the Royal Navy's swim qualification test!

Many thanks to the RN Sailors that took time out of their busy day to give us a tour of the ship and engage our Cadets!

In our first full day of our Naval Experience Week at HMS Raleigh, our cadets have kicked it off with a bang! Getting muddy and wet, they completed the obstacle course, facing the challenge head on, encouraging and helping their shipmates, and making it to the finish line. Well done, cadets! Way to go Thrapston Sea Cadets!

A taste of history at Thrapston Sea Cadets! ⚓🍰

A big thank you to Amanda from Welsh Bakes: Traditional Welsh Cakes and More for sharing the history of Welsh baking and how maritime trade carried these treats to other parts of the world. She even brought along a 100-year-old baking pan!

Our cadets loved hearing the stories, but sampling the Welsh cakes was definitely the highlight of the evening. History tastes rather good! 😋

🚨 We're looking for adult volunteers! 🚨

Thrapston Sea Cadets is growing! To keep giving our young people the opportunities they deserve, we need new people to join our team.

You don't need a military background.
You don't need to know anything about sailing.
You just need to be willing to give a little of your time and make a real difference.

Whether you enjoy mentoring young people, helping behind the scenes, teaching practical skills, assisting with administration, fundraising, or simply being another positive adult role model, there's a place for you.

As a volunteer you'll:
⚓ Help young people build confidence and resilience.
⚓ Learn new skills and make great friends.
⚓ Be part of a welcoming, supportive team.
⚓ Have the chance to make a genuine impact in our community.

A few hours each week can change a young person's future.

🎵 Do you want to build a cadet raft?
We learned some knots and teamwork too.
It floated out for five whole minutes...
Then took a dive, as rafts sometimes do! 🎵

Last night's raft-building challenge may not have produced the next America's Cup champion, but it definitely produced plenty of laughs, teamwork, problem-solving, and new skills. A great evening on the water and a reminder that success isn't always measured by how long something floats! ⚓🚣‍♂️😄
