This week, the Department of Education is launching a national foster carer recruitment campaign and in partnership with them, we have some key messages to share:
1. There is more than one route into fostering. Find the fostering organisation that is right for you.
2. Independent fostering agencies are an essential part of England's fostering system – bringing diversity, specialist expertise and communities of support to foster families.
3. Finding great foster carers matters. Helping great foster carers thrive and continue fostering matters just as much.
We are Empower Fostering, a private, independent fostering agency based in Somerset. What makes us unique? We are founded by Foster Carers. Working across the Southwest, we recruit, assess and support foster carers who provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children who cannot live with their birth families.
As an independent fostering agency, we play an important role in helping meet the need for foster placements by finding suitable carers, supporting them throughout their fostering journey and helping them provide the best possible care for children.
We welcome the ambition to recruit more foster carers. However, we believe that recruitment alone is not enough. We also need to address the real-world barriers that prevent people from fostering and ensure existing foster carers feel valued and supported.
