Poppy Appeal 2026 - Sainsbury’s

When you donate to the poppy appeal, it supports beneficiaries far and wide, but it never hits home more than when its in your own town.

Thank you Chantelle to you and your girls, you have certainly driven the message home for us.

If you would like to support Tamworths poppy appeal via donating or volunteering then please pop across to Ankerside Shopping Centre, Sainsburys and Home Bargains venture where you can pick up a poppy, or put your name down for an hour or so. Alternatively please contact Derek Moore who is the local Poppy Appeal Organiser.

A Wonderful Start to This Year’s Poppy Appeal

Yesterday saw a fantastic start to this year’s Poppy Appeal, with our local community coming together to show its support for the Royal British Legion and the vital work it does for our Armed Forces community.

The launch was a great success and a wonderful reminder of the generosity, kindness and community spirit that make our area such a special place to live. The support shown today was greatly appreciated and helped set a positive tone for the weeks ahead.

The Poppy Appeal is about much more than wearing a poppy. It is an opportunity to remember those who have served and sacrificed, to honour the courage of our Armed Forces past and present, and to help ensure that veterans, serving personnel and their families receive the support they need.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who came along, the Mayor, Deputy mayor glascote academy school choir who had the audience in their hands from the first note. They sang some old war songs and some up to date ones. Those that offered their support, made a donation or helped make today’s launch such a success. Every contribution, however big or small, makes a difference and helps the Royal British Legion continue its important work.
The poppy appeal organiser Derek Moore said "Thanks go to all the volunteers and supporters whose time, enthusiasm and dedication help bring the Poppy Appeal to life each year".

Today’s launch has given the appeal a wonderful start, and we hope the enthusiasm and generosity shown will continue throughout the campaign. If anyone wishes to volunteer a few hours of their time please get in touch.'

We will remember them.

Last night as our October social, members of the branch convened at Lumberjaxs Tamworth for a fun filled night of tossing sharp objects at wooden walls, yes thats it axe throwing.

All participants were there on time and ready to go for 20:00 ( first time ever that everyone was on time), after an expertly led innuendo filled safety brief, tutorials and the picking of competitor knicknames the competition started, and boy there were really some people taking it seriously (as you should when wielding dangerous and deadly implements around).

After four rounds it came down to the final two Thai boy and Badger Smasher ( Kameron Moseley and Anthony Frith ) to go head to head to be crowned the champion 🏆 🥇 🏅, who was it going to be?

We can confirm that the well and truly deserving win went to one of our newest members Kameron.

But what about the person that got the least points? Well, we are not so mean as to name that person but she hates raspberry sambucca and had to do a shot in the pub afterwards 🤢🤢🤢. Although someone may do the naming in the comments.

Last night upheld the Royal British Legion pillars of Connect, Support, and Remember.
Through connecting with each other, we are creating a lasting support network of friends, and comrades, and memories that we will always remember.

Thank you to Lumberjax for their amazing hospitality and expert tutoring. You guys are great.

Many hands make light work. Well they normally do, thankfully our branch member Gordon has today had the assistance of Ankerside Shopping Centre event organiser extraordinaire Caroline.

This amazing poppy camnet has taken around a week to sort using a hell of a lot of poppies in the process.

The poppy net will be displayed in Ankerside during the remembrance period along with other items.

Hi everyone, We as a branch announced earlier in the year that we had assisted Tamworth Borough Council with acquiring a band for Remembrance Sunday.

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstance the band has had to pull out.

Luckily, the branch reached out to their amazing network of super duper contacts and have managed to bag the excellent Piper Andy DeComyn.

Andy comes highly recommended, and we look forward to him leading the parade through the town whilst the sound of bagpipes reverberates between the buildings.

Please come out in force to support our serving and veteran community, buy and wear your poppies with pride.

And whether you are a veteran of 1 day or 30+ years, please come and march proudly whilst remembering those that paid the ultimate price at home and on the battlefield.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.

We know that this isn't technically branch related but it relates to one of our branch members who is doing great work in our armed forces community.

Alongside his many commitments, Gordon is a member of the Staffordshire Corps of Drums and has been for a good few months now.

Today Gordon has been honoured for his commitment by being promoted to Lance Corporal.
