As part of the rollout of defibrillators across Strathaven, The Rotary Club of Strathaven has arranged with St John’s Ambulance Service for two further training sessions on how to give CPR and in using a defibrillator.
“Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces someone’s chance of survival by up to 10%. Training is the biggest factor in the likelihood of intervention - we recognise the need for as many people as possible to learn the simple skills needed to save a life. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time. In an emergency, CPR can’t wait."
These training sessions will take place in Strathaven Hotel and are free of charge.

Would you like to be part of a global network of volunteers, trying to make the world a better place?

When you join Rotary, you can be sure that the enormous sense of achievement that you’ll experience helping your local community – and communities around the world – will be matched only by the fun you’ll have doing it. The Rotary Club of Strathaven has ambitious plans, therefore we are looking for men and women to bring their energy, business skills, experience, expertise and sense of humour to make a real difference to the lives of others.

The Rotary Club of Strathaven was founded in 1947 and meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, (except July) at 6.30pm for 7pm, in The Strathaven Hotel.

Here are some of the local initiatives, activities and projects undertaken:

1. 'Wrap Up Lanarkshire' to provide winter coats and jackets to the homeless and those in need

2. 'Empty Shelves, Empty Stomachs' campaign to enhance food donations to local food banks

3. The club has raised funds to enhance the provision of defibrillators throughout Strathaven, and provided training sessions in CPR and defibrillators in collaboration with St John’s

4. The club recycles laptops and computers donating them to local organisations and charities

5. We work with local schools to support student development initiatives including photography competitions and leadership opportunities

6. We partner with local groups to help with community events such as Strathaven Gala, The Agricultural show, Strathaven Balloon Festival, RoundStrathaven 50, Reindeer Day

Do you have an old PC or laptop that you no longer use and is still in working condition? If so then consider donating it to the Rotary Club of Strathaven so that we can get them back to factory status for reuse by our partner organisations Loaves and Fishes Foodbank, Trust Jack Foundation and Climate Action Strathaven. They will be used to assist customers in job applications, CVs, getting financial advice and much much more.

This is a great initiative that will help many people so please look out old Pcs and laptops (and all charging cables, monitors, keyboard and mouse if available) and get them over to us.

PCs can be dropped off at Climate Action Strathaven or you can email [email protected] for collection.
