Last Sunday 4 of our squadrons cadets represented 2500 at our Wing annual athletic championships, held at the Bedford Athletic stadium.

There were lots of cadet activities over the weekend, with our cadets spread thinly across multiple RAFAC events and activities. We were therefore only able to field a small team.

Despite the limited numbers, our cadets did themselves and the squadron proud!

Cadet Goodall particularly stood out having achieved a junior girls silver medal in the shot put!

Congratulations to all our cadets who participated! 👏🏻🎉🏆

🥾 ANNOUNCEMENT: The New DofE "Virtual Expedition" Category ⛺🛰️

In a major update for the 2026/27 season, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets is excited to announce a new alternative for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition phase: The Virtual Reality (VR) Hike.

Recognising that UK weather isn't always "cadet-friendly," the DofE has approved a pilot scheme for the RAFAC only, allowing units to complete their Bronze and Silver expeditions entirely from the comfort of their unit HQ.

How it works:

• The "Hike": Cadets will walk on the spot for 6 hours while wearing VR headsets programmed with "Lake District: Rain Mode."

• The "Campsite": Tents must be pitched in the corridor and stoves replaced with a shared microwave to simulate "authentic" field cooking.

• The "Heavy Pack": To ensure the challenge remains, cadets must still wear a 65L rucksack containing a minimum of four bricks and a wet sleeping bag while in the VR simulation.

• The Assessor: Will be replaced by an AI-generated officer who will periodically appear in the headset to ask “Are you sure you aren't lost?"

Sign-ups for the first "Indoor Bronze" intake open on the Cadet Portal at 11:59 today.

Last night was a proud evening for everyone at 2500 (St Neots) Squadron.

We were delighted to welcome Sqn Ldr Matt Dolton, our Sector Commander, for the squadron’s annual formal inspection. The inspection provided an opportunity to showcase the progress the unit has been making over recent months, and we're pleased to say the squadron passed with flying colours. The feedback highlighted the clear improvements across the unit and the positive atmosphere created by both staff and cadets.

The evening also saw several well-deserved promotions. Congratulations to Cdt Bywater, Cdt Davies, and Cdt Smith, who were all promoted to Corporal in recognition of their commitment, leadership potential, and the example they set to others on the squadron.

Individual achievement was also recognised through our monthly awards. Cdt Presada was awarded Cadet of the Month, while Cpl Tindale was recognised as NCO of the Month for their continued hard work and leadership.

A number of cadets were also presented with new badges reflecting their progress and dedication across a range of training areas:

Senior Cadet Classification
Cpl Tindale
Cpl Bywater

Bronze Space
Cpl Tindale
Cpl Bywater

Bronze First Aid
Cdt Goodall

Well done to everyone who was recognised during the evening. Achievements like these reflect the effort our cadets put in every week and the support of our volunteer staff team who make it all possible.

The squadron continues to go from strength to strength and it is fantastic to see the momentum building.

A number of our cadets gave up their weekend to practice with the squadron band. Well done to all those involved and a shout out to the staff members who also gave up their weekend so that the event could take place.

The percussion players also got to practice with the new drum pads, sound dampeners. A great edition to our equipment allowing practice indoors whilst other activities are going on simultaneously.
