Blyth Valley Rotary

Blyth Valley Rotary Doing good is not only fulfilling, also creates a positive ripple in the world around us. Let’s unite to inspire and protect one another!

Together, we can transform lives, uplift our community, and find fun in helping others. We are Blyth Valley Rotary. Originally Luncheon meetings were held at the Swan Hotel Southwold during 1959 and gradually the numbers were built up to approach the twenty‑five candidates required for a Charter. Eventually Southwold Rotary Club were in a position to hold our Inaugural Luncheon Meeting at the Swan

Hotel on Tuesday, 8th December, 1959. twenty‑five names appear in the list of Founder Members, with Rotarians Nelson Field as President, George Bumstead as Vice‑President, Aubrey Day as Secretary and Alec Gower as Treasurer. Regular meetings continued, with the Club going from strength to strength, in readiness for the Charter Presentation, which was held on Tuesday, 26th April, 1960 at the Swan Hotel. The same list of names is printed on the menu for this occasion. Over the years the Rotary Club of Southwold changed its meeting day from Tuesday to Monday and has met at the Swan Hotel, Sutherland House, Minivers Restaurant and the Congregational Church Hall before settling at the Craighurst in 1968. Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million with 46,000 clubs.
'Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves'

Massive thanks to the people who supported the Starlight 10k and 5K Dog Walk yesterday. The weather forecast was absolutely dreadful which which did cause the organising team a great deal of worry, However we were extremely lucky and the rain stayed away although it was quite chilly, so we do really appreciate the walkers that did turn out. with the A12 closed at Yoxford that also made journeys longer . So much goes on at this time of year !
We are truly grateful for peoples support. Currently we don’t know how much money we raised from the event, but rest assured the money will go to wonderful charities- the East Coast Prostrate Cancer Support Group, the Pear Tree Fund and Norfolk Suffolk Animal Trust. As always, Bella Hall and her incredible Team Old Hall Southwold Cafe & Walks made us truly welcome of which we appreciate greatly. Thank you to our volunteers, marshals and the people that gave their time for the charities. We hope next year to look at other charities to support that resonate with our walkers Thank you again to all those who attended the annual Starlight Walk. 2026
