This is exactly what our Discovery Experiences are for.

No previous angling experience needed. No expectation to know what you’re doing before you arrive. Just dedicated time with a qualified coach to learn properly, at your own pace.

For this 12-year-old, a couple of hours with Brad meant going from never having picked up a rod to learning the practical skills needed to start fishing with more confidence and independence.

And apparently she’s now hooked. We’ll accept responsibility for that one.

Our Discovery Experiences are available for children aged 8+, teenagers and adults who want an introduction to angling with proper coaching, equipment and guidance included.

Most referrals come in during week four of term. The ones that work best come in during week one.

There's a pattern professionals see every September. A pupil who struggled last year comes back to the same classroom, the same expectations and the same difficulty regulating, and everyone waits to see if this year will be different before making a referral.

By the time it's clear it won't be, half a term has passed.

Early intervention works best when it starts early, not when it starts as a response to crisis. If you already know which pupils are likely to struggle this term, that knowledge is useful now.

Reel Impact Angling is designed to support children and young people who are beginning to show signs of difficulty with emotional regulation, confidence or resilience, before those difficulties become harder to shift.

Sometimes they need somewhere quieter, a place where they can breathe, have a go and build confidence at their own pace.

That’s what these sessions are really about.

What if fishing became part of your week, rather than something you only tried once?

Our Discovery Membership is for children aged 8+, adults and families who want to fish regularly, develop their skills and learn with the support of an experienced, qualified Angling Trust coach.

Members have a regular weekly two-hour session with Reel Impact Angling, giving them consistency and the opportunity to build their angling skills over time.

Everything needed for the session is included:

• Two-hour coached session each week
• Equipment
• Bait
• Fishery fees
• Coaching and guidance
• A regular day and time each week

Places are limited because each member has their own regular weekly slot. (Saturdays included)

What happens in the 20 minutes before a Reel Impact Angling session even begins?

Before any coaching starts, our qualified Angling Trust coaches are already at Oak Lakes Fisheries checking kit, reviewing notes from the previous week and adjusting the session plan for who's arriving that day.

Nothing about a session is left to chance. The same coach, the same spot by the water, the same warm-up routine, all set up before a single participant arrives. That consistency is what makes the setting feel safe enough for the real work: building confidence, patience and emotional regulation at each person's own pace.

It's a quiet part of the programme that rarely gets seen, but it's exactly what makes the rest of it work.
