Our Scouts took to the skies for an unbelievable gliding experience with Devon & Somerset Gliding Club - and seeing the pure exhilaration on their faces was the ultimate end to the summer holidays!

But it isn’t just the kids who get the thrill. Our leaders got to join in and take to the air, too! But you don't need to be a daredevil to make an impact. The team members on the ground (watching the bags and supporting the young people who aren't quite as adventurous) are just as vital to making afternoons like this happen.

We have the plans, but a growing waiting list means we need MORE HANDS to offer these experiences to every young person who wants them. Whether you’re ready to fly or happiest keeping things running smoothly on the ground, a few hours a month makes all the difference.

A huge thank you to Yeovil Fire Station for their quick response to a fire along our boundary fence.

With conditions so dry, a spark caught the hedgerow on Bridge Way and destroyed part of our fence. Thankfully, the crews safely extinguished the blaze before it could reach our new container or the wooden Scout Hut.

We regularly talk to our 6 to 14-year-olds about fire safety, but this was a stark reminder of just how fast dry foliage can ignite. Please take extra care with ci******es, glass, or anything else that could trigger a fire in this heat!

Unplanned fence repairs mean diverting funds away from our upcoming Scout Hut accessibility upgrades. If you’re able to chip in a few pounds to help us cover the fix and keep our project on track, we would be incredibly grateful: www.spscouts.co.uk/hall-improvements

After our special recipe bean chilli was a massive hit at the folk festival, the Scout's food stall is back by popular demand - and this time, we’re serving up ultimate loaded chips!

Who says the smaller children get to have all the fun? 🎒🧭

While our regular weekly sessions are on pause for the summer holidays, two of our Young Leaders are taking the skills they learned as Beavers and Cubs to a whole new level on their own big adventures!

Setting off on their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award qualifier expeditions - building on years of experience with tougher route planning, heavier packs, and total independence.

We can't wait for them to get back to share their experiences with their Beavers and Cubs and inspire the next generation! ✨

Gliding, sleepovers, and hall revamps don't happen by magic.

Without ✨adult volunteers✨ working behind the scenes, the big adventures never get off the ground. Here’s what looks like for us this week:

📐 Building for the future: Kitchen measured up for a quote to extend and refurbish our space.
🦦 Youth-Led dreams: Beaver leaders mapping out the autumn term, packing in a sleepover and top requests from the Beavers themselves.
🪂 Taking to the skies: Final prep for the Scouts, who are going gliding tomorrow!

From spreadsheets and site visits to soaring at 2,000 feet, every minute volunteered opens up a world of discovery for young people.
