Lunch and travel will be covered for unite members.

✊ Another incredible show of solidarity with OUP workers in Oxford today.

Members colleagues trade unionists and supporters came together outside Oxford University Press once again to stand behind those taking strike action and fighting for their jobs.
What we saw today was determination.

Despite weeks of industrial action our members remain united and committed to making their voices heard. And the support shown at today’s rally was another reminder that they are not fighting alone. ❤️

OUP has not approached the union to discuss the dispute since mid-August despite publicly stating that it is consulting with staff to reach a resolution.

Our members deserve meaningful engagement, not silence.

👏 A huge thank you to everyone who joined us today and continues to stand alongside OUP workers.

The message from today’s rally was clear: it’s time for OUP to get around the table.

⚡ Energy isn’t a luxury, it’s something every household needs.

Today our Unite Community activists took the Unite 4 Energy For All campaign to Portslade in Brighton speaking with local people about rising bills and why our energy system needs to change.

The principle behind Energy For All is simple: everyone should be able to access enough energy to meet essential needs including heating lighting and cooking.

Yet millions of households continue to struggle with energy costs while another increase in the price cap came into effect this week.

That’s why taking this campaign into our communities matters.

Every conversation gives people an opportunity to share their experiences learn more about the campaign and join the call for an energy system that works for households rather than generating excessive profits.

⚡ Unite Community was out in Portsmouth today taking a stand against rising energy bills.

Our members and activists came together as part of the Unite 4 Energy for All campaign on the same day the new energy price cap came into effect.

From today the typical annual bill for a household paying by direct debit rises from £1,663 to £1,723 at a time when families are already feeling the pressure of the cost of living.

Today’s action in Portsmouth was about making sure those voices are heard and demanding a different future for our energy system. ✊

Unite 4 Energy for All is calling for:

⚡ Public ownership of the energy sector
🌱 A worker-led transition to renewable energy
💚 Excess green energy to be free

👏 A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in Portsmouth today and helped spread the message.

🎓 What a fantastic day at Kent SU Network Freshers Fair!

Today we were at the University of Kent meeting students and talking about trade unions workers’ rights and the power of having a collective voice.

With around 8,000 students expected each day at this year’s Freshers event it was a brilliant opportunity to speak with the next generation of workers.

What made us especially proud was seeing so many young minds interested in learning about trade unions, asking questions starting conversations and discovering what being part of a union can mean for their future working lives. ✊

For many students their first steps into the workplace are just beginning. Knowing their rights understanding the importance of solidarity and recognising the strength workers have when they stand together can make a real difference.

👏 Thank you to everyone who stopped at our stall for a chat today.

The future of our trade union movement belongs to the next generation and we’re incredibly proud to see so many wanting to learn more. ❤️

✈️ Another win for Unite the union members at London Gatwick! ✊

More than 220 workers employed by Wilson James have secured an improved pay deal bringing their dispute to an end and calling off planned strike action.

The workers provide vital assisted travel services at Gatwick helping passengers on and off flights and keeping one of the UK’s busiest airports moving.

Members had been prepared to take strike action after rejecting the company’s previous offer. By standing together and being prepared to fight for better they have secured an improved deal. 💪

👏 Congratulations to our reps and members who stood united throughout the dispute.

When workers stand together they can win better pay.

🚨 Over 30 Unite members at Oxford University Press (OUP) are taking further strike action this week in a dispute around offshoring.

Workers in its finance operations team already walked out earlier this month after their employer announced plans to move the department to EXL Services. This firm provides its services from India, meaning the almost 50 affected OUP staff will be unable to TUPE transfer and will lose their jobs.

The affected staff have also been asked to stay on for six months to train their replacements, which has been described as an ‘insult’.

💬 Sharon Graham - General Secretary, Unite the Union said: “Our members have been cast aside and treated extremely poorly by their wealthy employer, who is clearly putting profits over people.

“Unite will always fight plans to offshore our members’ jobs. and our members at OUP have our full support during this dispute.”

The latest offshoring plans at OUP come on the back of several larger groups of its employees being made redundant, including 113 proposed redundancies last November in its education and English language teaching divisions.

OUP is the publishing house of the University of Oxford and is the largest university press in the world. According to its most recent annual report, OUP made profits of £47.1m 2025/26 and has £329.5m in the bank while its CEO Nigel Portwood was paid $1,486,174 in 2024/25.

🚨 Unite the union members are striking until 9 October.

💬 Unite regional officer Naomi Gravett said: "These workers are highly dedicated professionals who have been left devastated by this news and it is an insult they will be expected to train their replacements.

“They believe they have had no choice but to escalate strike action in a bid to save their jobs.”
