☀️📖 Out of Office 🥂🏖️

Ok, I am putting my out of office on for two weeks. But I’m sure that even if the grid is quiet, there will be a few smug reading selfies over the next couple of weeks. 😉

The last few months have been an absolute blast - even the months I was laid up with my leg! And this last week has been particularly full-on, with two amazing book clubs at The Sycamore and Golden Eagle, plus lots of meetings at some lovely venues - Salt & Fettle • Café Lincoln , COFFEE CULTURE BAILGATE LINCOLN , The Oaks , Oatz&Co and Everyman Lincoln .

I may have to do a post on what happens when you turn your hobby into your job when I get back, because it has been such a whirlwind of fun. I’ve met some amazing people, read some amazing (and some not so amazing) books, and have so much planned to share with you when I’m back — two new book club venues, venues, more about CIC, and plenty more.

But first, I need to put my feet up, read some excellent books (swipe to see what’s on my Kobo(!), although I might not get to them all), eat some Ruffles, drink fizz and, most importantly, nap. A lot.

I’m not away for all of it, so if there are any urgent enquiries I’ll try to get to you. Otherwise, I’ll be back at it w/c 7 September.

📚 Was this our favourite book so far? 📚

I absolutely had the BEST evening at the Golden Eagle Book Club last night! Thank you so much to everyone who came along to chat about what could be our highest-scoring book SO FAR, which was…

🥁🥁

The Names by Florence Knapp.

But what did we think?

It was a tough read at times, and certain people were completely correct about the Aimee cry-o-meter! 😂 We thought all the timelines were good and bad in their own ways - uncomfortable, sad, heartwarming… and, all in all, a real thinker!

⭐ Overall rating: 4.5/5

📅 Our next Book Club is Thursday 17th September, and we’ll be reading The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.

Tickets are available via the link in my bio, or just let me know you’re coming and you can pay on the night.

📚🍷 THE GOLDEN EAGLE BOOK CLUB - SEE YOU TOMORROW! 🍺📚

I can’t wait to see you all tomorrow (Thursday 20th August) at Golden Eagle for our next book club!

This month we’re talking about The Names by Florence Knapp - and I CANNOT WAIT to hear what you all thought about it.

DID YOU CRY? Which timeline was your favourite? Did you like the style? SO MANY THOUGHTS! 😂

As always, here’s how it works:

⏰ You can arrive from 6:30pm, with the discussion starting at 7pm.
➡️ Aimee will check you off the list and collect your rating when you arrive.
➡️ Grab a drink and find a seat. Don’t worry if you’re coming on your own — there’s always somebody to chat to.
➡️ Not sure where to start? Discussion questions will be on the tables.
➡️ If you take any photos, please send them my way… I’m terrible at remembering to take any!
➡️ At the end, we’ll see if your opinion has changed after hearing everyone else’s thoughts, and we’ll vote for our next read.
➡️ Then it’s home time (possibly after another drink or two!) with your next book lined up and ready to go. 📚

🎟️ If you haven’t got your ticket yet, grab it via the link in my bio. If you’d rather pay on the night, that’s absolutely fine too (card or cash) — just drop me a message so I know to expect you.

SEE YOU TOMORROW!

📚📚 What we’re reading for upcoming Book Clubs 📚📚

How are we halfway through August already?! 😱 My holiday is creeping up quickly, and I’m SO excited to have a couple of weeks away from real life, where I can completely switch off and focus on lots of the amazing books we’ve got coming up for our August and September book clubs.

We’ve got a fair few thrillers this month, but they’re all a bit different, spanning historical romance, sliding doors, cosy crime, and a good old courtroom drama. Plus, there’s a bit of dystopia, and, of course… what summer would be complete without a bit of cowboy s**t?!

I don’t know which I’m looking forward to reading the most!

So… which book club will I see you at? And will it be just the one? 😉

As always, if you have any questions, don’t forget to drop me a comment, a DM or a WhatsApp!

❗️💻 Words & Wine: Writing Group Cancelled 📝❗️

I’m so sorry to say that, due to the heat, we’ve decided to cancel tonight’s Words & Wine session.

I’m gutted, as I was really looking forward to hearing how you’ve all been getting on over the last few weeks, and to meeting some new faces. But I think we’ll all be a little more creative when we’re less sweaty! 🥵

🎟️ Our next meet-up will be Thursday 10th September, and I really, really hope to see you then.

Tickets can be rolled over or refunded - just let me know which you’d prefer.

📚 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd 📚

Thank you to everyone who came along to Jade Hawkins Book Club last night! I really loved our evening eating cake and chatting about everything from Agatha Christie, comics and TV shows, to what cars and holidays you can buy if your finger gets chopped off… because what else is book club for?! 🤪

But what did we think of the book?

As a whole, we liked it! We loved the language and humour, enjoyed the twist, and all agreed Agatha was very clever.

Some of us found it slow to start and a little harder to get into, with quite a few different characters to keep track of, but it got easier as we went along.

ONE person guessed the twist early on! Well done, Bekka! 👏

⭐ Overall rating: 4/5

📅 Our next book club is on Tuesday 8th September, and we’ll be discussing The Boy on the Bridge by M. R. Carey. We’d love to see you there for yummy cake, coolers or coffee.

If you fancy joining the WhatsApp chat before our September meet, just let me know and I’ll add you.

📚NEW VENUE FOR SEPTEMBER!📚

I’m so excited to announce a new venue for September, and this time we’re doing it a bit differently!

We’ll be meeting at the Craftea Cafe on the last Friday of the month (so Friday 25th September is our first meet) and each month we’ll be reading a new book from a particular series, and since we’re launching in autumn, that series will be…The Dream Harbor Series by Laurie Gilmore, and our first book will be The Pumpkin Spice Cafe.

I’ve not read any of these books, but I haven’t stopped hearing about them, so I’m excited to see what we all think… all while eating lovely cake and excellent drinks (I love their chai latte).

DETAILS:
🗓️ Friday 25th September
📍 Craftea Cafe • Coffee • Cake • Crafts •
⏰ 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start
📖 The Pumpkin Spice Cafe - Laurie Gilmore

I’m really looking forward to reading the book and chatting to you all about it!

📚🍰 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie 🍰📚
How’s everyone getting on with The Murder of Roger Ackroyd for the Jade Hawkins Book Club? I have to admit, I’m hugely behind thanks to birthday chaos, but I’m hoping to catch up over the next few days!

If you haven’t booked yet, tickets are available now – just use the or drop me a message.

📅 Just a reminder that we’ll be meeting on Monday 10th August.

Join us at The Garden Bakehouse, right in the heart of Lincoln, for an evening of book chat and delicious treats. Expect brownies, cookie pies, cheesecakes, amazing coffee, matcha and coolers while we discuss all things Agatha Christie.

Who’s finished the book already? 👀

🍹📚 ☀️That’s right… it’s nearly holiday time!! 🏝️⛱️ 🌊

Oh man, I’m so excited to get away with the family for a very quiet, relaxed holiday where I fully intend to read as many books as possible in between naps.

In fact, nobody is to talk to me unless it’s to ask if I’d like a drink or another bag of Ruffles. After all, isn’t that what family holidays are about… ignoring each other?! 😉

When I’m on holiday, I can be a bit of a power reader (see: the ignoring family bit!), so apart from my book club reads, I’d love your recommendations.

So, go on then… tell me what I should be reading on holiday and help me fill my (already bursting-at-the-seams) Kindle!

Drop your recommendations in the comments… please and thank you!
