📚🍷 Such a lovely evening at Book Club last night! 🍰📚

By complete coincidence, we ended up discussing two books where the setting was almost as important as the characters themselves. In fact, the island in Wild Dark Shore may have been my favourite character of all!

So what did we think? We thought a lot. Everyone was very tolerant of just how much I hated Dom in Wild Dark Shore (possibly even more than everyone hated Will in The Guest List 😆), but I’ll keep it brief to avoid spoilers...

🔪 The Guest List - Lucy Foley
A slow start, but it definitely picked up in the second half. We enjoyed how everything came together, although none of us were particularly fond of the characters!

😂 Favourite comment of the night: “It was so boring I actually wanted all of them to be killed by the end.”
⭐️ 3/5

🌊 Wild Dark Shore - Charlotte McConaghy

This ended up being a brilliant discussion. We loved the vivid island setting, the children and the wildlife, and talked a lot about the contrast between the island’s harshness, Dom’s masculine toughness, and Rowan’s instinct to nurture and protect - even though she was as hard as nails herself.

The ending left some of us wishing things had turned out differently.

⭐️ 4/5

Thank you to everyone who came along. I had a brilliant evening chatting books with you all.

📖 Have you read either of these? I’d love to know what you thought!

📚 NEW BOOK CLUB INCOMING 📚

I’m so excited to be working with Honey & Thyme to launch their Book Club Community!

I’ve been quietly fan-girling their Instagram since before they even opened, and when I finally visited this week, I wasn’t disappointed - I now officially love matcha! 🍵

Before our first official book club, we’re hosting a launch meet & greet on Monday 29th June.

This is a chance to come along, meet other members, and chat all things books - from what you’re loving right now to what’s on your must-read list.

And don’t worry about coming alone - I promise there will always be someone to talk to.

There’ll also be a book swap, plus you’ll find out (and have the chance to purchase) the book for our very first official book club in July.

Tickets will be on sale soon - keep an eye out 👀

📚🍷 Gigi’s Book Club! 🍰📚

I’m so looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow for our book club at . It’s been way too long - you’ll have forgotten what I look like! 😂

We have two books to catch up on: The Guest List by Lucy Foley and Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy. Two completely different books, and I suspect they’ll both provoke very different reactions, which I can’t wait to hear about!

📖 No spoilers in the comments, but have you loved them, hated them, or are you somewhere in between?

Here’s a quick reminder of how it works:
⏰ Doors open at 6:45pm, with discussion starting at 7pm.
➡️ Arrive anytime from 6:45pm - will check you off the list and collect your rating.
➡️ Grab a drink (and something to eat if you fancy it!).
➡️ Find a seat and settle in. Discussion questions will be on the tables, so don’t worry if you’re not sure where to start.
➡️ If you take any photos, please send them to me - I’m terrible at remembering to take any!
➡️ At the end, we’ll see if your opinions have changed and chat about what we fancy reading next.
➡️ Then it’s home time... with no doubt even more books added to your TBR pile.

🎟️ If you haven’t got your ticket yet, grab one via the link in my bio. If you’d rather pay on the night, that’s absolutely fine (card or cash) - just drop me a message so I know to expect you.

See you tomorrow!

What do you mean I’m not meant to use my dog as a Kindle stand?! 😂

And yes, I’m in my comfies, with fizz and crisps, and I’m not even sorry.

I’m reading Here One Moment for The Garden Bakehouse Book Club, which is meeting on Friday 19th June.

Aimee’s Book Clubs are fun, inclusive and relaxed groups in and around Lincoln for anyone who loves books and a good chat.

📚 Last Read, Current Read & Next Read 📚

All my June book clubs are keeping me busy!

Last Read
The Woman Who Lied - finished yesterday morning with my coffee (and my Kindle plugged into the wall as it was on 6% 😂), ready for the book club. I’m really excited to hear what everyone thought!

Current Read
I’m LOVING listening to Jane Fallon’s Welcome to the Neighbourhood at the moment. I do love a Jane Fallon book! So many people making selfish decisions 🤣

I’ve also started re-reading Here One Moment in preparation for book club next week. I’ve decided to actually read it rather than listen to it to see how differently I feel about the story. I’m really hoping I love it as much!

Next Read
My next read will be The Things We Leave Unfinished for . I’ll probably both read and listen to Where the Crawdads Sing for too. I rarely do both formats for the same book, but we’ll see how I get on! 😉

What about you?
📖 What’s the last book you read?
📚 What are you reading now?
👀 What’s next on your TBR?

🐆 ☀️ Hi, I’m Aimee 🍷📚

It’s been nine months since I launched this little bookish community/account, and scrolling back, I realised I’ve never really done a proper intro post. Probably because, urgh, that requires a photo of me. But now there are nearly 500 of you, I thought I’d better show my face and say a proper hello!

So, I’m Aimee. I’m an author, reader, and professional book yapper. I run book clubs and writing groups in and around Lincoln.

It all began with hosting the at The Sycamore over two years ago, and somehow, in the last nine months, I’ve ended up hosting five more (nearly six!), plus a few one-off events, including one at Newark Book Festival next month. It’s all been quite wonderful.

If that wasn’t enough, I also did my Long London Run and ended up injured on my sofa for a month. I could probably have written more of my book during that time, but let’s not dwell on that. Instead, let’s focus on the fact that exciting things are coming, and I can’t wait to share them with you soon.

In the meantime, swipe to find out a bit more about me, including my controversial reading opinions...

📚 The Book Appreciation Society 📚

I love that now marathon training is over, I can attend book club every month at

Led by Lizzie (can you spot her in the picture? 👀), it’s always a lovely, relaxed couple of hours spent chatting about books I might never have picked up otherwise.

The only downside is that I always come away wanting something new! This time, though, I was very restrained and only left with this gorgeous coffee cup so I can drink and walk without spilling it everywhere.

I’m not sure I’ll be quite so restrained next time…

📚 The Woman Who Lied 📚

How’s everyone getting on with The Woman Who Lied ahead of our Golden Eagle Book Club in a couple of weeks?

I’ve just finished it with my morning coffee, and I’m surprised that after a slow start I really got into it!

After last month being such a split opinion, are we all going to agree this time? Will Tyla love it, or is this heading straight for the DNF pile again? I cannot wait to find out!

If you’re in or around Lincoln and love a thriller, we’re a friendly group who love talking books (and disagreeing about them in the best way).

Details are on the second slide - book in via the link in bio or drop me a DM.

🌳🚶‍♀️ LOOK AT THIS! 🚶‍♀️🌳

Managed a little walk today… not far… but enough to listen to 15 minutes of an audiobook and feel like myself again!
And what better way to do that than a catch up on Here One Moment. I read it properly about a year ago (I can’t even remember now - last year?!), and it’s really stuck with me, so I’m so pleased it was voted in. Any excuse for a revisit!

Have you started it yet? If not, don’t worry - there’s still time!

We’ll be discussing it on Friday 19th June at The Garden Bake House.

DETAILS:
🗓️ Friday 19th June
📍
⏰ 6:30pm for 7:00pm start
📖 Here One Moment – Liane Moriarty

🎟️ £5 - you can purchase via the link in bio, by dropping me a DM, or if you’d like to pay on the night, please let me know so I can add you to the list!

☀️📻 Guess who was just on the radio? 📻☀️

🙋‍♀️

I had a lovely chat with Frances Finn on this morning about three books I’d recommend for your holiday reading list. Choosing just three was never going to be easy for me (as anyone who knows me will understand!), but I suspect my final choices won’t come as much of a surprise.

So, here are my three:

📖 I See You by Clare Mackintosh – ridiculously hard to put down!

📖 The Women by Kristin Hannah - strong women, difficult subjects, and guaranteed to make you cry.

📖 Lost Lambs by Madeline Cash - I can’t really describe it, other than it’s hilarious, bonkers, and completely different from anything I’ve read before!

I also asked the members of my book clubs for their holiday reading recommendations, so keep your eyes peeled for that post coming soon.
