Illuminate 2026 workshop bookings are now open! ✨

Last year, some people told us they couldn't attend because all the workshops fell on weekends. So this year we've added a weekday workshop to make it easier for more people to get involved. 🏮
Taking place on: 12, 14, 21 & 22 November

Join us for Illuminate 2026: Looking Up, create your own lantern with our artistic team, and walk in Boston's spectacular illuminated parade this November.

The Illuminate Parade by Transported in collaboration with Story Tellers Lincs's bespoke artwork creations and event is made possible through funding from Arts Council England's National Lottery Project Grants, supported by Boston Borough Council and the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership. Having made its debut appearance at the Spalding Pumpkin Festival in October 2026, the Cabinet of Curiosities will now be touring the town and its surrounding areas over the next few months!

Created by artist Steven Hatton of in collaboration with Transported and Spalding Gentlemen’s Society, this extraordinary travelling cabinet is packed with hidden treasures, curious objects, heritage-inspired artworks and hands-on activities celebrating the rich history of South Holland and the collections of the Spalding Gentlemen's Society Museum .

The Cabinet will next be appearing at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum , in the Garden Room on Thursday 29th & Friday 30th October, 11am-3pm.

An activity for all ages, no booking required and free – perfect if you’re looking for budget-friendly half term fun in Spalding!

Explore the cabinet to uncover fascinating artefacts and themed collections, discover artwork inspired by Spalding’s ARTeFACT Trail, and try your hand at brass rubbing using the decorative plaques built into the cabinet.
You can also have a go at making your own zoetrope – an early method to create animations and moving illustrated pictures by using a sequence of drawings.

Members of the Spalding Gentlemen's Society team will also be joining us on Thursday, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about the museum's remarkable collection, ask questions, and find out about exciting future plans while the museum building undergoes renovation.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a fabulous illuminated mermaid lantern swimming through the pumpkin fields of ! 🧜‍♀️🎃

We had a wonderful, heart-warming weekend at this autumn event just outside of Boston, with and .nahpeacock respectively leading the puppeteering with the Transported team of this lantern specially created for Boston's heritage-inspired lantern parade by and residents of Boston.

🐦🎨 From workshop tables to the heart of the reserve...

The bird waymarkers created by local participants now lead visitors to this beautiful new mural by Chris Lewis Jones () at Freiston Shore.
But you'll have to visit in person to see the full stretch!

Inspired by the reserve's wildlife and the remarkable migration routes explored through our Flyway Trail project, the mural celebrates the birds that make this coastline so special.

We're thrilled to see the finished artwork in place and would like to thank everyone who contributed their time, creativity and enthusiasm to the project.

Next time you're at Freiston Shore, follow the birds and discover where they lead. 🦅

🐦 The birds have landed at Freiston Shore!

The beautiful wooden bird waymarkers created by local participants during our recent workshops are now installed around the reserve, helping guide visitors towards an exciting new addition inspired by Lincolnshire's birdlife.

Created by members of the local community alongside the Transported team, each waymarker celebrates the species and migratory birds that make Freiston Shore such a special place.

We're so proud to see everyone's creativity become a lasting part of the visitor experience. Thank you to everyone who helped design, saw and paint these fantastic birds!

It's really starting to look like Autumn now, with pumpkin-spice lattes at every corner, it makes us so excited to see some actual pumpkins this weekend at the Meet a Mermaid at Bells' Pumpkin Patch! ✨🧜‍♀️🎃

Transported is heading to this Saturday and Sunday with a magical preview of Illuminate 2026.

Be among the first to see our brand-new mermaid lantern puppet, specially created for Boston's heritage-inspired lantern parade, and only seen before at the We Are Boston weekend and at our activities in Shodfriars Hall. Stop by for a photo opportunity with the lantern display!

Make your own lantern and walk in the parade! 🏮

Help create the spectacular lanterns that will light up Boston's heritage-inspired winter parade this November.

Join us for Illuminate 2026: Looking Up and work alongside the Illuminate artistic team to create beautiful illuminated artworks inspired by the hidden sculptures, carvings, weather vanes and architectural details that decorate Boston's skyline.

Whether you're a returning Illuminate maker or joining us for the first time, these free community workshops are a chance to get creative, learn new skills and become part of one of Boston's most-loved events.

Introducing… the Cabinet of the Curiosities!

The artwork made its debut on Saturday at the Spalding Pumpkin Festival, and it was an absolutely fantastic day.

This cabinet was built by artist Steven Hatton of to be interactive, with each drawer containing a curious item, artwork or artefact inspired by the collection of Spalding Gentleman’s Society Museum.

Festival attendees stopped at the Transported gazebo to make a zoetrope – an early method to create animations and moving illustrated pictures by using a sequence of drawings. They explored the drawers to find artwork inspired by Spalding’s ARTeFACT arts trail, and tried their hand at brass rubbing using the decorative and explored the selection of items that the team brought from their collection for the event.

Visitors could also share stories about their own treasured objects and what they would choose to preserve for future generations.

Keep an eye on our events page for announcements of where the Cabinet will be appearing next – we’d love to know what you’d choose to go in the curious collection!

🐾 We met some lovely pups across both Heritage Open Days weekends in Spalding!
This colourful character, painted with a rainbow, was 's therapy dog and certainly brightened up the day. 🌈🐶
