📣 We need you at the Town Hall on Wednesday 24th June 📣

This is one of the most important moments in our campaign so far, and we'd love to see as many of you there as possible.

We'll be gathering from 1pm, right before the Council meeting begins at 2pm. We'll be making statements and asking questions, and there are new councillors who need to hear directly from our community just how much our Green Belt means to us.

Numbers really do matter here. The more of us standing together outside the Town Hall, the harder we are to ignore. Whether you can stay for five minutes or the whole afternoon, please come along and bring a friend or neighbour with you. 💚

🚨 DO THE NUMBERS JUSTIFY BUILDING ON OUR GREEN BELT? 🚨

One of the key arguments for releasing Green Belt land is the number of homes Sheffield City Council says can be built on these sites.

However, a detailed review of the evidence suggests that many of these figures are based on generic assumptions and may not fully account for known constraints such as flood mitigation, ecology, mining, access requirements, public open space and other site-specific limitations.

The Council describes these figures as "indicative". Our review tested those assumptions against the site constraints identified in the Council's own evidence and found that capacity could be substantially lower than claimed.

The Council claims the 11 proposed additional Green Belt sites could deliver 3,906 homes.

Our review suggests a more realistic capacity could be between 2,385 and 2,672 homes — a reduction of between 1,234 and 1,521 homes.

For our local S35 sites:
🏡 NES37 (Creswick Avenue/Yew Lane) Council: 592 homes. Review: 354-413 homes

🏡 NES38 (Holme Lane Farm). Council: 188 homes. Review: 130-152 homes

🏡 NES39 (Wheel Lane/Middleton Lane). Council: 66 homes. Review: 38-41 homes

🏡 CH05 (Strawberry Fields). Council: 549 homes. Review: 385-420 homes

👀 See the images below to see what NES37 looks like today, and what it could become.

The Sheffield Plan currently has only a very small housing buffer. If site capacities have been significantly overestimated, it raises serious questions about whether the proposed Green Belt release strategy is justified.

These findings form part of the evidence submitted by the Sheffield Green Belt Alliance to the Planning Inspectors as part of the Main Modifications consultation. Further detail can be found here:https://www.saveourgreenbelt.net/_files/ugd/a3fa79_eeb79a3be2884b29927b219bb6c9989e.pdf

🚨 INSPECTORS ISSUE FURTHER LETTER TO SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL 🚨

Lots of people have asked what happens next after the Main Modifications consultation. Here's the latest. 👇

The Inspectors have now issued a further letter to Sheffield City Council, and it contains some very significant points. They are not yet ready to issue their final report and have asked the Council for more information on several matters, including:

▪ 🛣️ The Innovation Corridor Road. They've raised serious concerns over deliverability and indicated it should be removed from the Plan.

▪️ 🏗️ Whether all reasonable urban and brownfield alternatives have been properly considered before any Green Belt land is released.

▪️ 📍 The deliverability and boundaries of a number of allocation sites.

The consultation generated around 550 responses, all my with the thousands of signatures on petitions across Sheffield to save the greenbelt - a real sign of how many residents and organisations made the time to be heard 🙌

The examination is ongoing, more work is now required from the Council, and further consultation may be needed before the process can conclude.

💚 A huge thank you to everyone who has backed the campaign so far. Your letters, evidence, consultation responses, donations and petition signatures have kept these issues under detailed scrutiny.

Our work isn't finished. As we move to the next stage, we still need support for our legal challenge fund, and we're pushing towards 10,000 petition signatures. ✍️ If you can contribute, or you haven't signed yet, please do.

Together, we can keep local voices heard and Sheffield's Green Belt properly protected. 🌳

Please support our campaign, and the Sheffield Green Belt Alliance to STOP this from happening. Our communities and wildlife deserve better.

We need your help now, as the legal case must be prepared before the vote by Council. When the vote is completed, we only have six weeks to submit our challenge. This means we are preparing now, and we need funding to pay the expensive legal costs which come with this. Any amount will help us going forward, and donations can be made here: https://www.saveourgreenbelt.net/donate

We continue to keep fighting this, and we won’t stop 💚

💚 Thank you, and we need your help, right now.

First, to everyone who has already donated, thank you. We're so grateful. Your generosity has made a real difference and is helping us prepare for what's ahead.

We're preparing for the crucial Council vote, and to give our Green Belt the strongest possible defence we've taken on the very best legal support we can. But legal costs are high, and we need to raise more funds quickly so our team can keep working in the run-up to the vote. It's essential we fundraise now, because we have to submit the legal challenge (in full) within 6 weeks of the vote.

We're raising funds for our own area, and as part of the wider Sheffield Green Belt Alliance, standing together to protect green spaces right across the city.

Every single donation makes a difference. Whether it's £5 or £50, it all goes directly towards protecting the green spaces we love in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Grenoside. 🌳

👉 Please donate here: https://www.saveourgreenbelt.net/donate
If you're able to give a larger amount, please contact us directly so we can arrange it with you and make sure you get confirmation. 💚

To those who've already given, and to everyone joining us now, thank you. Together, we really can make a difference.
