๐Ÿ“ฃ Towards the end of Volunteer Week, we thought it would be fitting to introduce you to one of our very own volunteers... Leah!

Since joining Everyday Enable in March 2025, Leah has been involved in many different things from projects to events and helping in the office. When she is not volunteering, she is usually found listening to rock music or snuggling with Sox the cat with a blanket and a hot chocolate, BUT...... it MUST have cream and marshmallows, and maybe even a cupcake, or what is the point right??

Volunteersโ€™ Week is back! ๐ŸŒŸ Itโ€™s time to celebrate all things volunteering!

Our volunteers are a wonderful group of people who kindly give us their time and a wide diversity of skills. They help with a range of tasks behind the scenes, such as flyer design, delivering some of our overarching projects, and supporting our staff. Volunteers' contributions are invaluable and helps us keep on doing everything that we are doing. Thank you to all our volunteers ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ’œ

If you want to be part of our team and improve the lives of people with disabilities living in and around Selby, please either email Jo on [email protected], or simply drop us a message on our social media pages. We can't wait to hear from you!

๐Ÿ“ฃ LAST CALL!

Today is the final day that you can submit evidence to the Timms Review, the government's consultation on how to make sure that PIP properly supports people with disabilities, and how to make PIP fairer and fit for the future.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ This is a brilliant opportunity to get your voice heard and tell the government- nothing about us without us! Click the link in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Get that by raising your voice ๐Ÿ“ฃ

The government is working on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) reform, known as the Timms Review ๐Ÿ“„

The Timms Review wants to hear from disabled people on how effective PIP is, experiences of claiming and being assessed for PIP, and whether the experience changes for different groups of people.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ This is a brilliant opportunity to get your voice heard and tell the government- nothing about us without us!

The Timms Review is open until 28th May: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/call-for-public-views-to-improve-disability-benefit-for-millions

๐Ÿ“ฃ PIP UPDATE ๐Ÿ“ฃ

The Department of Work and Pensions has announced that all existing PIP award reviews have been moved to a minimum of three years for a new claim, rising to five years at their next review if PIP recipients remain entitled ๐Ÿ“‹๏ธ Disability minister Sir Stephen Timms has also stated that the number of face-to-face assessments will rise from 6% to 30% โฌ†๏ธ

Disability charity Sense found that over half of disabled PIP claimants with complex needs felt humiliated during their assessment- so a reduction in the frequency of health reviews is very welcome.

PIP as a whole is still under review and you can have your say at the link down in the comments section for one more week ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

1 in 4 people will be affected by a mental health issue at some point in their lives, so it has never been more vital to make sure that mental health works for everybody!

๐Ÿ“ฃ We are proud to introduce our Admin Support... Sez!

If there is a spreadsheet to be made or a process to be streamlined, Sez is your person! Since joining Everyday Enable in February 2026, sheโ€™s been indulging her strange passion for admin and, admittedly, working a little too efficiently - sorry, not sorry! ๐Ÿ˜„
When sheโ€™s not bringing order to chaos, sheโ€™s exploring the gorgeous North Yorkshire landscape with her family and beloved fur baby, taking in the incredible sights and enjoying the friendly local life.

This petition demands the protection of the DWP's Access to Work scheme so that people with disabilities can supported within a fulfilling job โœ๏ธ the link will be below in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ Access to Work was designed to make employment possible for people with disabilities, including funding support workers, assistive equipment, and travel

๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ Decisions are currently taking up to 37 weeks, and self-employed people with disabilities are being told to wait up to 19 months

๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ The rejection rate rose by more than 12% in 2024-25, then by 22% between April and October 2025

๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ Workers with disabilities reported significant cuts to support workers' hours, refusals to fund essential travel and personal care, and delayed payments. These workers ended up covering costs themselves or going without (Disability Poverty Campaign Group)

We are powered by the most incredible team of people, from our managing director to our volunteers.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Introducing our founder and managing director... Jo!

You have heard of the crazy cat lady โ€ฆ.. now meet the crazy monkey lady!
When she is not at work โ€“ which isnโ€™t often - Jo loves nothing more than snuggling up under a blanket surrounded by monkeys (cuddly, ornamental, she really isnโ€™t fussy!) and watching a good drama on TV.
If you were to ask her what her favourite part of running Everyday Enable is, she would probably say, seeing positive change happen, and lunchtime of course!!
