Not all days out with the Maritime volunteer Service go smoothly. Today the cooling system chose to test us. A new impeller and hand feeding the engine got us home. We will find out what happened to the water later. It was none of the usual suspects.

Another pleasant morning with the Maritime Volunteer Service. We did an accuracy check of all our fixing aids out in the Solent followed by some alongsides in a busier than normal Medina. Martine went sole for the first time. It felt very strange stood on the dock watching Wight Spirit leave.

Another great day out with the Maritime Volunteer Service. We put in this extra one to take advantage of the weather. It was a bit of a jolly after the hard work of the last couple of months. We followed Martine’s passage plan to Bucklers Hard. It gave us a chance to try out the new chart table which worked very well. Lynn joined us for her first day out on Wight Spirit. Coffee in the Master Builders then a gentle plod back. Did some good visual navigation and fixing using transits. Anyone who wants a go at some traditional navigation is welcome to join us.

After a long lay up, MVS on the Isle of Wight is finally back on the water! Currently doing sea trails as we prepare for the spring and summer. It’s a major step forward in our role to support the island community, if you are interested in what we do, or want to maybe join us, we are a friendly group. Leave a message and we will be in contact.

Another fantastic training day. Prospective new member Oliver tries on the MVS for size and does a perfect 1st alongside (beginners luck I say) and remedial classes for me after my attempt at putting her back on her normal berth! The overheating problem from last week has been resolved at no cost (our favourite price) but proved the worth of keeping the engine perfectly clean. We would never have seen the problem on a dirty engine. After 4 weeks on the water and many cleaning sessions we are still finding leaves in the bilge from her 8 years ashore. We are very much looking forward to being operational again next year.
