You are invited to join us on Monday 14th December to enjoy a 2 or 3-course lunch, at the Riverside Centre, Newport. This is an open invitation, so please do invite your family and friends - all are welcome!

Time; 12.30 for 13.00 sit down

Cost; 2 course is £25.00 3 course is £30.00

The Trustees have agreed for a complimentary bottle of Red /White w**e and a bottle of Shloer for each table of 8

The cash bar will be open.
Limited coffee, compliments of The Riverside

Just a short reminder about our support group's meetings this month:

Monday 21st September Ladies' meeting 1030 - 12 noon at God's Providence Tea Rooms, Newport, all welcome, a hot drink will be provided, along with good company!

Thursday 24th September Members' meeting: please note the time is 2 - 4 pm at the Riverside Centre, Newport. The speaker will be Ruth Hollinghead, Sight for Wight. Light refreshments will be provided, parking available but please remember to register your car at the reception on arrival. The access information about bridge maintenance has been published by Island Roads on their website, detailed below.

Monday 28th September Advanced PCa meeting at Alan's house in Shanklin, 5.45 - 8 pm. Call Alan for details on 07568245124. We join in with the national Tackle meeting on Zoom, then chat ourselves. Light refreshments provided.

The access road and bridge near the The Riverside Centre in Newport (Isle of Wight) are affected by major bridge maintenance led by Island Roads scheduled for late September 2026.
What You Need to Know
Project: Essential maintenance work on the major Medina bridge structure affecting access near Newport Quay and the Riverside Centre.
Timing: Major works and closures are planned to start in late September 2026.
Access Impact: Disruption and closures affect local routes around Newport Quay and the dual carriageway elements managed by Island Roads.

The major maintenance work on the Medina Way Bridge is officially scheduled to begin on Monday, 28 September 2026. The project will involve replacing all 16 bridge bearings and is expected to last for approximately six months, with a planned break over Christmas and New Year.
Because the bridge sits directly above the Quay area, several access changes will be implemented to accommodate the heavy engineering equipment.
🚗 Detour & Traffic Routes
Newport Quay & Little London: Both Newport Quay and Little London will be closed as through routes to safely support the bridge structure during the works.
Accessing the Quay: You will still be able to access the Newport Quay area and businesses via Fairlee Road and Seaclose.
Little London Businesses: Establishments in Little London will remain accessible via the existing one-way road, which will temporarily be converted into a two-way system outside The Bargeman's Rest.
🚶 Pedestrian Access
While vehicle through-access will be restricted, pedestrian access is typically maintained around the perimeter zones where it is safe to do so. However, because the area under the bridge will be a live construction site for jacking up the bridge deck, expect localized footpath diversions immediately beneath the structure.

Just a quick reminder that you are invited to our members' meeting this Thursday 27th August at The Riverside Centre, Newport, from 6 - 8 pm. Our speaker will be Paul Davies, Chairman of Tackle Prostate Cancer. He is travelling here from Birmingham especially to meet us and will answer your questions about what Tackle has done for you, as well as speak about his own personal encounter with prostate cancer.
