We are St Helens Sea Cadets (TS Scimitar)! Part of the UK's largest maritime youth charity. TS Scimitar is a Sea Cadet Unit.

Part of the Marine Society & Sea Cadets. It is a disciplined, uniformed youth organisation with close links to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging the development of personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy. We have a rank structure modelled on that of the Royal Navy/Marines, giving Cadets an opportunity to progress and take up positions of responsibility as they acquire skills and seniority. Fortunately for St Helens, we have one of the largest buildings in the area, enabling us to accommodate more cadets. Please follow us on Twitter, Instagram & LinkedIn

🫡 Change in Commanding Officer 🫡

Last week, Captain (SCC) Paul Turner RMR stood down as our commanding officer, having been in post for a number of years. Capt Turner has been instrumental in a number of improvements and changes over the past few years, directly improving our cadets experiences.

He hands over command to S/Lt (SCC) James Dillon RNR. S/Lt Dillon has extensive experience in unit, district and area roles, including having previously been commanding officer of our unit!

He said:

“It’s a real honour to take on the role of Officer in Charge at St Helens Sea Cadets.

I’m looking forward to continuing the success the unit has achieved, building on what we already have and developing an even stronger team, while creating more opportunities for our cadets and continuing to move the unit forward.

I’d also like to thank the outgoing Officer in Charge, Capt (SCC) Paul Turner RMR, for his leadership, dedication and hard work, and for everything he has done for the unit.

I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Thank you Capt Turner, and good luck to S/Lt Dillon!

❌ Parade Night Cancelled ❌

Unfortunately, due to a power outage in the local area affecting the unit building, we have to cancel this evenings parade night.

The safety and security of our cadets is a priority, and we have had to make this tough decision in the best interest of our cadets.

Don’t worry, we will be back parading as normal on Monday, 5th October. See you all then!

On the 14th September 2026, the NW Area Officer, Cdr Laura Wellington RN, along with Merseyside East District team, attended our unit for the grand opening of our new, state of the art, E-Sports training room!

Tireless work from our unit volunteers and management team facilitated our new room, which opens lots of training and development opportunities to our cadets such as STEM, tactics, teamwork, leadership and much more!

We where also joined by 969 St. Helens Squadron - Royal Air Force Air Cadets who demonstrated their flight simulator to our cadets, something we are looking to integrate in the coming months!

A hughe thank you to everyone who attended and got involved in enhancing our cadets experience!
