Today the new mural in St Helens was unveiled, and it’s been brilliant to watch this develop over the past few months from conversations and ideas with young people, to sketches, workshops and eventually something huge and permanent in the town centre.

The real credit belongs to the young people who contributed their ideas and gave their time, and to Powered by Hip Hop and, Kingsyze Graffiti Sie King, who have done an incredible job turning those ideas into what you can see today.

There has also been a lot of work behind the scenes from St Helens Council, Community Safety, Vibe UK Org, the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Jeanie Bell team and others to make it happen.

Reach has been proud to play a small part in that wider effort.

Our detached team have been able to use the relationships they already have with young people in Central to talk about the project, encourage people to get involved, help with sign-ups and support young people to take part in the sessions.

For us, that is one of the best parts of detached youth work. Sometimes our role is simply being the bridge between a young person standing in the town centre and an opportunity they might otherwise never know existed.

And now there is something permanent in St Helens that some of those young people can walk past and say: I helped with that!

It was also genuinely good to see councillors, officers, youth organisations, police and community partners from across different backgrounds and political parties together today supporting something positive for young people.

We’re hoping to continue using the area around the mural during future detached sessions and activities, so hopefully today is not the end of the story for the space either! 👀

Huge congratulations to everyone who made it happen particularly the artists and the young people at the heart of it! 🪽

What a brilliant addition to St Helens. 💙🧡

Youth work doesn’t always happen inside four walls. 💙🧡

Tonight, our Reach Out team are back in St Helens town centre; one of three evenings every week that our detached youth workers are out meeting young people where they are.

Tonight is also about strengthening the team, with two of our experienced detached workers out supporting and training two members of staff in the approach.

Detached youth work can look deceptively simple. Walking. Talking. Being visible. But behind those conversations is skilled relationship-building, safeguarding, identifying risk, listening, challenging when needed and knowing when a young person might need something more.

And none of it happens overnight.

It’s about turning up consistently enough that young people recognise you.

Then trust you, then, eventually, talk to you.

No appointment. No referral. No waiting room.

Just youth workers, out in the community, three nights a week.

That’s Reach Out. 💙🧡

Always good to see a friendly face when out on detached! 😁 Forge fitness NW CIC

With the recent launch of our new Crowdfunder "Reach Up" , we think it's a timely reminder to take a moment to thank everyone again who supported our previous Crowdfunder - "Rainhill Youth Fund". Their generosity, and that of individuals, helped lay the foundations for everything we're doing today.

It made a real difference. Their support helped us to continue our weekly youth sessions, providing local young people with a safe, welcoming place where they can build confidence, make friends and feel they belong, grow and thrive.

A special thank you to the following businesses:
🧡 Social Sisters – Helping small businesses grow online with confidence through content creation and digital marketing support.
https://www.facebook.com/share/1CfCtih8i2/

🧡 KL Skin – Katie’s established beauty and aesthetics business, based in the heart of Rainhill Village (above Carouse), offering a range of skin, beauty and eye treatments.

🧡 Blue Mango Restaurant & Sorelle Bar & Restaurant – Rainhill is incredibly fortunate to have these two outstanding restaurants on our doorstep, and we’re grateful that both chose to support Reach Rainhill.

We're now building on that success with our Reach Up Initiative, supporting young people as they make the important transition from Year 6 to Year 7.

If you or your business/organisation would like to support our latest Crowdfunder, please consider making a donation using the link below or by contributing equipment and resources.

As a thank you, businesses/organisations that support Reach Rainhill will receive an acknowledgement on the Supporters & Partnerships page of our new website (soon to be launched) and our social media platforms with a link to your website or preferred social media page.

Every contribution, large or small, helps us continue investing in the young people and the future of our community. 🧡

A very special donation to Reach Rainhill 💙🧡

Reach Rainhill has received a generous £1,000 donation from the family of Phil Vose, a much-loved and well-known figure in Rainhill.

Throughout his life, Phil worked tirelessly to raise money for many different charities and local causes, alongside the incredible contribution he made through Rainhill United. His commitment to helping others left a lasting mark on the community, and we feel incredibly honoured that his family has chosen to support Reach in his memory.

The donation will be used to help launch our new SEND Parent and Carer Coffee Mornings in Rainhill.

These monthly sessions will provide a relaxed and welcoming space where parents and carers can meet others who understand, share experiences, access practical SEND and wellbeing support, speak with members of the Reach team and hear from occasional guest speakers.

The coffee mornings will be supported by our SEND, therapeutic and mental health-informed team, with Rainhill Parish Council supporting us with the venue and Reach supplementing the donation through other funding to help make the sessions sustainable.

This feels like a fitting way to continue Phil’s legacy of bringing people together and supporting his community. The donation will help create a space where parents and carers can feel listened to, understood and less alone.

We are deeply grateful to Phil’s family for placing their trust in Reach and allowing us to use this donation to create something positive and lasting in his memory.

Further details about the first coffee morning will be announced soon.

Thank you, Phil. Your impact on Rainhill continues. 🧡
