🧡 Volunteer Week: Celebrating Anne Keen 💙

This week is Volunteers’ Week, and we couldn’t let it pass without recognising someone who has been absolutely instrumental in the story of Reach Rainhill C.I.C.

Anne Keen started as a supporter of Reach, but in reality she has become so much more than that.

She is our Volunteer Community Engagement Lead, our organiser, our encourager, our steady pair of hands, our honest voice, and often the person quietly making things happen in the background before anyone else even notices they need doing!

Anne gives an extraordinary amount of time to Reach, practically full time some weeks, and somehow still checking in even when she’s meant to be on holiday!

Over the past year, Anne has played a huge part in helping Reach establish itself in Rainhill. From community engagement and events, to supporting fundraising, building relationships, championing young people, encouraging families, strengthening our links with local groups and keeping us grounded in what the village actually needs; Anne has been there for it all!

So many of our biggest milestones have Anne’s fingerprints on them. The growth of Reach in Rainhill has not happened by accident. It has happened because people have given their time, energy, care and belief to something bigger than themselves and Anne is one of those people.

She brings warmth, humour, honesty, determination and a deep love for community into everything she does. She reminds us constantly that this work is about people, relationships and doing the right thing even when nobody is watching!

Anne, on behalf of everyone at Reach Rainhill C.I.C.; thank you for everything you do!

Thank you for believing in us, backing us, challenging us, encouraging us, and helping build something that is already making a real difference.

Reach would not be where it is without you. 🧡💙

This last year has been monumental for Reach, and The Rainhill Gala has been part of that journey; supporting us with funding for extra youth sessions and emergency knife packs for our detached teams.

This year, we’re incredibly proud to be helping manage the Free Family Fun Zone with games, activities and some free orange sunglasses for children while stocks last 😎🧡

Huge thanks to everyone who makes today possible. Community events like this don’t happen by accident; they happen because good people give their time to something bigger than themselves.

See you at the Gala! 🧡

We don’t normally share individual comments, but this one really stopped us in our tracks.

This is exactly why safe spaces, trusted adults, tea and toast, football, conversations and simple Friday nights matter.

Thank you for allowing us to share this and thank you to all of our young people, parents, volunteers and staff who are helping build something special in Rainhill 🧡

Last night was a huge success. 🧡

Alongside our regular young people, we welcomed new faces who came along, signed in, grabbed drinks and snacks, used the facilities, and spent time with staff and peers.

Most young people chose to stay close to the centre, using the field next door, and the evening gave staff the opportunity to spend time in smaller groups as young people came in and out. We had some fantastic conversations, made plans for the summer, and every single young person we engaged with was polite, respectful and incredibly well mannered.

Since opening, we have never had to ask a young person to leave, never had to contact a parent regarding behaviour, and have never experienced any major issues.

That is a real testament to our young people and to our brilliant staff team.

We often hear conversations about young people, but evenings like last night are a quiet reminder of what happens when young people are trusted, listened to, given safe spaces, and supported by consistent adults who genuinely care. I’m really proud of what we’re building together in Rainhill.

☀️ Tonight’s session is being shaped by young people.

Too hot to stay inside? Fair point 😅

So tonight we’re bringing out the Reach gazebo, goals, music, cold drinks and lollies for an outdoor session 🌳⚽️⛺️

One of the best parts of youth work is listening and adapting.

Staff will still be available inside if needed.

See you later Rainhill 🧡
