🦋🌱 🦋🌱 🦋 🌱🦋🌱 🦋 Garlic Mustard Seed Spreading 🌱

We have been liaising with RBC in an effort to help The Butterfly Conservation with trying to spread garlic mustard seed across Coton Park, to encourage the Orange tipped and Green Veined butterflies to thrive and move to more areas around the town.

Last year they focused on schools to educate children about nature. This year they are reaching out to allotments, Community Groups and Parishes to see if we are willing to sow the garlic mustard seed on the edges of suitable sites, orchards, or in a wildflower areas which they know some areas have.

Coton Park has all of these and RBC have asked if we have any volunteers who would be happy to help with this project around the Estate.

Obviously, we have committed to provide some resource to assist and so we would like to hear from anyone on the Estate who would be willing to join in (volunteer)and help spread the seeds.

A portion of seeds would be made available to volunteers, to spread in agreed areas, at their leisure. This is not a specifically timed "group-event", although it could be, if that is what volunteers preferred (or it could be a mix of both), but the aim is to spread the seed in the most appropriate locations as soon as possible after delivery.

We do hope that some of our residents are happy to help and look forward to making contact with you to arrange the sowing.

We will be receiving the seeds in the next 10 days or so, so if anyone would like to help us with this, please let us know in the comments below.

Thank You

Only 2 Days left to challenge the development of 1,100,00 sq ft of warehousing just 40 meters from Coton Park and Newton Homes........…. Please make sure you don't just let this go through, by not objecting, properly, in writing, as we describe below.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Comment on Coton Park East (R26/0652)

As promised in our last update, here is your quick guide to completing Action 1 (commenting on the planning application).

Action 2 (contacting your local councillor) will be covered in a follow up post.

⭐️ Action 1: Submit Your Comments on Application R26/0652

Send your comments directly to the planning team:

• Email: [email protected]

• Subject Line: Comments on Planning Application R26/0652 - Coton Park East

• Include: Your full name and postal address (anonymous comments are not accepted by planning officers). Also whether you are commenting on or objecting to the application depending on your personal view.

Tips for maximum impact:

Focus on material planning considerations (e.g., local traffic congestion, safe road access, building heights/density, drainage/flooding, and preservation of green buffers). The planning officer uses these to set binding conditions for the developer.

Make it personal how is it impacting you. Specific impacts are better than generalisations. (I am worried for my child’s safety, I walk my dog in that area etc.)

Be constructive you may not want this to happen at all, but if it does, what makes it better? Make suggestions - tree planting, public open spaces etc.

Doing this can take just 5 minutes but make a huge difference. Let’s shape our community together!

3 Ways to Shape the Coton Park East Development

Your input directly impacts how Coton Park East gets built. Take action now:

1. Comment on the Planning Application (Deadline: September 25) High volumes of constructive feedback give planning officers leverage to impose strict conditions on the developer. Submit comments on the council portal or by emailing the planning officer directly.

• How to find it: Search "Rugby Borough Council Planning Portal", click Find an Application, and enter reference R26/0652 to access the documents and comment.

2. Contact Your Local Councillor (Next 4 Weeks) Ask your ward councillor to represent community concerns and request a Planning Committee call-in. This shifts the final decision from a single officer to a public vote by elected representatives.

3. Review the Draft "Design Code" (Date TBD) Rugby Borough Council is drafting rules for building heights, layout, light levels, and green spaces. Once published, maximum community review and support will give this document real legal weight.

Stay tuned — our next post will walk you through the exact steps to submit your comments and contact your councillor!

Coton Park East Planning Application: What You Need to Know & How Community Action Works!

The formal planning application for Coton Park East (the green space from the primary school to the M1 and Castle Mound Drive) is now live. The image is the developer's "Master Plan".

While the proposal includes small units, warehouses, and a "MEGA unit," community action has already forced major improvements to the original plan:

• Safer School Access: Main traffic access moved to Castle Mound Way, away from school gates.

• More Green Space: Land gifted directly to the school, plus retained public footpaths.

• Reduced Local Impact: Lower building heights near existing homes and better layout orientations.

• Scrapped Traveller Site: The previous site allocation was completely removed.

• Strict Design Codes: Council-enforced standards requiring higher developer quality.

What’s Next? "It will happen anyway" isn't true—local pressure gets results.

Review the attached application links, identify what you support or want changed, and watch this space. Over the next few days, we’ll share step-by-step guidance on how to submit your official council comments.

Share this post and talk to your neighbours—let’s shape our community together!

🚨 Coton Park East – Warehouse Planning Update 🚨

Many residents may have received, or will be receiving a letter about the warehousing Planning Application for Coton Park East (the fields beyond RFPS). This follows on from the initial presentation by Panattoni (the developer) at RFPS many months ago, where they did say that they would be submitting Planning Application in the summer, so it’s no surprise.

Don’t worry!! Here's what you need to know 👇

The CPRA, together with the Coton Park East Committee, Newton Parish Council and the Newton Manor Lane action group are already working with Rugby Borough Council on a Design Code for the whole development area of Coton Park East, to protect residents from the worst impacts.

📢 Once it's issued, we NEED your voice — get involved in the consultation and have your say. We will be providing information and assistance to make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to have your say.

🔍 Do you want to see the Planning Application plans now? Search R26/0652 on the Rugby planning portal:

(This is Panattoni's proposal)

Please do not miss this chance to have your say - in the Spring of 2025 we asked residents for support to ensure that this development didn’t get included in the new Local Plan, but so few people objected that the voice of the residents was not enough to be significant.

If you want to help ensure that this development only goes ahead with the best possible protection for residents, you must respond at the appropriate time.

✍️So, to this end, more updates will coming soon and will continue throughout the Planning process — including support for residents who'd like help writing objections.

Keep watching here, on the Coton Park Community Group and the Coton Park East Committee Facebook Groups to make sure that you are fully aware as things happen.

WARNING TRAFFIC DELAYS

There’s been an accident at the roundabout at the Leicester Road Avon Valley Junction at the end of the dual carriageway and a car is upside down on its roof in the middle of the road. The traffic is already building up back to Tesco going into town and the road is closed coming down from the town centre.

Please everybody be aware and avoid using Leicester Road to get into town this morning. I would imagine it will be quite some time before the car is recovered from the roundabout. There are police, ambulance and a fire engine on the scene at the moment.

URGENT WARNING TO ALL DRIVERS ON COTON PARK

Drive with extreme caution on Stonechat Road at the junction with Crowsfurlong.

It had just been reported that there had been a failure of the road surface at this junction, in the middle of Stonechat Road, with the granite setts/blocks that make up the surface coming loose and being flicked upright by passing traffic. The blocks have been sticking up out of the road surface by 6”-8” and hitting one could cause significant damage to a car and could be catastrophic/fatal for a motorcyclist.

Warwickshire Police are aware and are arranging for the emergency repairs team from Warwickshire Highways to make an urgent repair overnight.

Please drive extra carefully and watch out for any blocks sticking out from the surface.

We’d like to take the opportunity to thank our Team Tidy Up volunteers for their hard work and commitment yesterday evening, litter picking around the estate.

As well as the Coton Park and Begonia Way play areas, litter was picked from the surrounding footpaths, the Service Road (down to the Great Central Walk) and a number of streets, roads and footpaths around the estate.

Well done Team ! (Joanna T Raffe, Laura O’Connell and Grace, Michael Manzella, Laura Manzella and Sophie and Hugo, Kate Ware and Keeley and Charlie, Raj Mistry and Dean Welburn) you’ve made a big difference to estate and the crazy amounts of litter that appear.

This time some of the strangest items ever were found! . Maybe someone can tell us what they all are 🤣
