As comes to a close, we’re reminding parents that babies and small children mostly drown at home in the bath or in the garden, in just a few centimetres of water.

It’s scary to think about but drowning is silent so parents won’t hear any cries of distress.

That’s why we advise staying with your baby or young child at all times whilst they’re in the bath.

And keep them within arm’s reach to keep them safe.

This week is and we’re joining Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK in raising awareness and encouraging families to enjoy water safely.

As we’ve sadly seen in recent weeks, anyone can drown - even strong swimmers. They may over-estimate how strong a swimmer they are or under-estimate risks in the sea or open water.

💧Remember, drowning is silent. A drowning child doesn’t splash about or cry for help. They slip quietly under the water, often unnoticed.

💧Always supervise children in and around water. Non-swimmers should always be within reach.

💧Teach older children to choose safe places to swim like public pools and beaches with lifeguards

💧Explain the dangers of swimming in open water, including strong currents, deep, cold water and things under the surface they can’t see

A day to recognise that fathers' can experience mental health problems.
There is stigma associated with mental health issues.
There is stigma against experiencing mental health issues early into parenthood.
The stigma against experiencing difficulties in early parenthood is even higher for men than for women.
10% of men experience postnatal depression
50% of men experience postnatal depression when the mother experiences postnatal depression
There is support available out there. Please know that you aren't alone. Seeking help can be the first step to feeling and getting better.
What can we do to keep tackling the stigma? We must keep pushing forward.
