What's your thoughts on this article in the Cambs News, Is Ramsey's High Street really dying? Have the improvements to the Mews Car park made a difference? Why did Huntingdonshire District Council in their consultation document & Ramsey Town Council promise extra parking spaces in this Car park, but actually taken spaces away! Will the proposed pedestrianised area and the associated removal of another 15 parking spaces really improve foot fall in the town

From Ramsey Town Council Minutes 22.01.26

Town Centre Improvements:
To consider and decide on the preferred option as part of the Town Centre Improvements –

Option1: Full Pedestrianisation

Option 2: Timed Pedestrianisation, e.g. the area would be open to vehicles from 4pm -8am or some other suitable timing. (this could be gated, or bollards controlled by Ramsey Town Council)

Option3: Retain vehicle access at all times (this would require substantial design changes).

Responding to the publics questions and queries Cllr S Corney gave an overview of the project and all that is connected to the project on a wider scale and the answers were summed up in his briefing. Councillors debated and gave serious consideration on the options1,2 and 3.

Proposed by Cllr S Corney and Seconded by Cllr J Bufton Council voted 15 FOR and 1 ABSTENTION for the Town Council’s preferred option number 2.

The members asked the Clerk when responding to the project lead to ask the following questions:
a) Council would like the project to consider removing the double yellow lines outside the library and the butchers shop which could then give an extra four spaces.
b) Council asked for clarification that if the area becomes gated/bollard controlled that the Town Council would be in control of it c) Council asked if a refurbishment of the public toilets could be looked at as part of the project to attract visitors and businesses to the Town.
d) Council asked the Clerk to ask for advice on how to make the service road from the butchers to the end of Great Whyte a completely one-way system.
e) The Clerk was asked to get feedback on the valuation on the land in The Mews.
