It's always nice to see one of our members recognised for the voluntary work they do.
Well done Ken
Ken didn’t set out to be a volunteer and the standard view/definition of a volunteer is not something that sits well with him.
Over the years Ken has made various business, charity and community acquaintances and relationships (including the charity’s Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Sally), and these have created his natural path into helping people.
By his own admission, Ken prefers to work under the radar but he likes nothing better than to help people he knows and trusts. Ken was a carers representative for eight years leading up to Covid, which helped improve existing links with the QA.
Ken has built a great relationship with Sally over the years (and with the charity team) and, as part of the of Havant (and other local) Rotary Club-led projects, he has also helped raise money for the paediatric department at QA.
He enjoyed his working life and feels he’s benefitted greatly from the experience. In his mind, he is still working and using his life experience to do a job (without pay) that has the huge bonus of helping others.
Ken isn’t a volunteer, he’s one of life’s helpers and you’ll be able to see him with his Rotary colleagues at the Colour Dash event in July throwing ‘lots of paint’ and on the catwalk of the charity’s fashion show in September.
