The first meeting of the group that would eventually be the Ffestiniog Railway Society was on the 8th September 1951. The Society was registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee (No. 542449) on 24th December 1954, with the title Festiniog Railway Society Limited. In 1997 the Society became a registered charity (No. 1064178) and changed its name to its current title, Ffestiniog Railway Society.
