It’s Test It Tuesday!

You are around nine times more likely to die in a fire if you do not have any working smoke alarms.

Test smoke and heat alarms weekly to make sure if fire does break out everyone in your home has time to get out safely.

Best Start Grant School Age Payment is paid automatically to those who already receive Scottish Child Payment.

But some people still need to apply.

Applications are now open to those who:

✅ don’t qualify for Scottish Child Payment but get Housing Benefit.

✅ have opted out of automatic Best Start Grant payments

✅ are under 19 and dependent on someone else who gets benefits for you

If you're currently receiving Scottish Child Payment you will receive a text when we're checking eligibility and we will send a letter to let you know if you will get the payment automatically.

Happy volunteers week to all our amazing volunteers. Since the beginning of this year, this committed, hardworking and caring band of people have delivered 1,480 pieces of advice to 630 clients over 1,275 appointments and telephone calls. Also, crucially, they have helped many of these clients to be better off, collectively, by £237,726. That’s over quarter of a million pounds in the pockets of families across Tweeddale who need it most, and also over quarter of a million pounds being spent in shops and business and supporting the economy of Tweeddale. A huge thank you to a resourceful and dedicated group of people who give their time freely to help other people! 👏👍❤️

Pop in and chat with our Trading Standards Officers and Police Scotland today at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles, from 11am to 2pm.

They’ll be on hand to share advice on how to spot and avoid scams, and explain how Trading Standards can support you in staying protected.

The UK Government has announced a temporary cut in the rate of VAT on summer attractions from 20% to 5% over the summer holidays.

This will apply to ticket prices for both adults and children, covering attractions such as fairs, theme parks, zoos and museums. It will include children’s tickets for cinemas, concerts, soft play and the theatre. And it will cut the cost of children’s meals in restaurants and cafes from 20% VAT to 5% as well.
These changes will apply across the UK from the start of the Scottish school summer holidays on 25th June and run until the end of the school holidays in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on 1st September.
