Thank you to the Peebles RBS staff and customers for their recent bake sale fundraiser which raised £120 for our weekly class.

Because of this donation and other recent donations from Borders Competitions, Peeblesshire Charitable Trust, and Robert Briggs we are delighted to now be able to offer class for only £5 per person (carers/supporters free) from July onwards.

On behalf of all of us at Movement for All with Dance for Parkinson's SBorders THANK YOU for your generosity and support.

July classes will take place 16th, 23rd & 30th July, 11.30am - 1pm at the Eastgate Theatre. Hope to see you there.

Meet Debbie, our Support Dance Artist, volunteer co-ordinator and fundraising super star. She offers her time and skills as a volunteer and, as it's Volunteers week, we would like to take this opportunity to send a big THANK YOU to Debbie for everything she does for us and arrange this little profile spot light...

✨When did you first join Dance for Parkinson’s?
I started volunteering for DfP in 2018/19 - I can’t remember exactly.

✨Tell us more about yourself
I have always loved to dance. I am a qualified ballet teacher and have had a career in nursing & care. I have a wonderful family and enjoy spending time with my grandchildren. I’m currently a member of the Prime dance company at Dance Base in Edinburgh.

✨What is your role within Dance for Parkinson’s?
I first volunteered as class support but after some time I decided to do the Dance for Parkinson’s training through People Dance so I could help out a bit more, I began to lead some exercises and really loved it. When the group had to look more seriously at funding I volunteered to develop my role and became Support Dance Artists on a voluntary basis. I also help out by co-ordinating the rota for our other volunteers and arranging various fundraising activity to help us sustain the class. I feel so lucky to be able to volunteer using my dance skills and working with two wonderful dance and music artists. I miss it when I am unable to attend!

✨What’s your favourite part of leading the class?
I particularly love leading basic ballet exercises, watch our participants enjoying themselves and receiving their feedback.

✨How Has volunteering had an impact on you?
This has given me confidence to develop my own dancing and I now dance regularly . It has also been amazing to connect with other dance artists within the Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland network. It has expanded my knowledge; learning, understanding and witnessing the benefits of dance for people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.

Thank you Debbie Cunningham for being part of our dancing family 🫶

It's Volunteers Week and here at Movement for All with Dance for Parkinson's we are very lucky to have a wonderful team of volunteers who we could not operate without. Not only do they provide the support our class participants need but enhance the class with their kindness and friendship. This wonderful group of people are ready to leap into action and join in all the weird and wonderful things we do - they even dress up on occasion!!

Valentina joined our group as a participant but over the years slowly transitioned to be a monthly support volunteer. Here's her story...

"I volunteer with Dance for Parkinson's because I am so very grateful for the service I received from them when I was on the receiving end.
I felt I wasn't just in a dance class but in a community where I felt accepted and appreciated. I was encouraged and I grew in confidence both physically and mentally as I had to come to terms with disability.

DfP is not just physical exercise but looking out for one another. So now I want to return the help I received by volunteering."

Valentina is one of 8 people who support our class. We would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to all our volunteers 🥰
