Compaid

Compaid Today we are the largest disability charity in the county, supporting over 1,400 disabled and vulnerable people each month.

For 40 years, Compaid has empowered older, disabled, isolated, and vulnerable people across Kent with accessible transport, and includive digital skills training to connect, learn, and thrive. Founded in 1986, Compaid has been supporting disabled, elderly and vulnerable people in and around Kent through digital skills training, and accessible door to door transport. Our services are available to a

nyone with a physical or learning disability, as well as those with sensory or communication difficulties, or age related conditions. Compaid was founded in 1986 by Lorna Ridgway MBE, who recognised the enormous potential of personal computers to increase the communication and creative opportunities for those who were living with disability. Following a pilot scheme with disabled people at a local residential home in Tunbridge Wells, she decided to set up a specialist centre that offered a variety of training and opportunities based around computers, specialist software and accessing devices. Transport services, initially to bring clients to the centre, soon followed, along with payroll support for disabled people who directly employed their own personal carers. Lorna died in 1994, but her vision of disabled people empowered to overcome barriers in society remains at the heart of our charity.

๐Ÿ’™ It was wonderful to spend this morning with our Edenbridge Outreach trainer Karen, and catch up with our clients Lorraine and John at The Bridges Centre .

We first met them at Sevenoaks District Council Officialโ€™s Silver Bells Christmas Party last year and introduced them to our digital skills support in Edenbridge. Just five months later, theyโ€™re now enjoying regular sessions with Karen, learning and growing in confidence every week.

๐Ÿคฉ Seeing the real difference our community support is making is something weโ€™re incredibly proud of! A huge thank you to our amazing trainer Karen, and Mary and her team who run Bridges Cafe brilliantly.

๐Ÿ’™ Community starts with connection.

For many of our passengers, accessible transport means more than simply reaching a destination: it means staying connected to friends, activities, support networks, and the communities around them.

๐Ÿ˜ Keelan was so pleased to complete his cross-stitched car today!

โ›…๏ธ Sunny weather has brought a real burst of creativity to the centre today.
Itโ€™s always a joy to see people trying something new, building confidence, and enjoying the moment with the right support around them.

๐Ÿฅณ Our incredible supporter Taylor Cherry took on the TCS London Marathon this Sunday in support of Compaid, and what an achievement it was!

A huge thank you to everyone who cheered her on and sponsored her fundraising in aid of Compaid. Not only did Taylor fulfill her lifelong dream of running this iconic race, but she also smashed her fundraising goal, raising over ยฃ2,000.

Reflecting on the experience, Taylor said: โ€œThis was such an amazing experience, I loved every moment, the crowds & atmosphere were unbelievable and Iโ€™m so glad we raised so much for Compaid.โ€

Aiming for a time of around 3 hours 30 minutes, Taylor pushed through the very warm conditions and crossed the finish line in a fantastic 3 hours 26 minutes. This time put her in the top 15% of the 59,830 finishers.

๐Ÿ’™ Thank you Taylor, what an inspiring accomplishment!
