A fascinating visit to Hull Maritime Museum!

Following a meeting with our client, Hull Museums, we had the opportunity to explore the newly reopened Hull Maritime and discover its incredible story.

Following a major £20.4 million restoration project spanning six years, the museum has been transformed into a modern, interactive visitor experience, while the historic Grade II-listed former Dock Offices have been carefully restored to preserve their heritage.

After enjoying a lovely lunch in the onsite café, we explored more than 800 years of maritime history, discovering fascinating stories of trade, migration, fishing, whaling and Arctic exploration, alongside the lives of the generations shaped by the Humber and beyond.

The museum also brings to life Hull’s proud heritage as one of Britain’s leading maritime cities and highlights why the Humber remains the UK’s busiest port complex.

With its engaging exhibitions, interactive displays and free entry, Hull Maritime Museum is a fantastic day out for all ages and a great option for families looking for something to do with the children during half-term!

A brilliant example of how historic buildings can be thoughtfully restored and reimagined for future generations to enjoy.

Supporting our clients beyond the boardroom!

Supporting our clients at events is another important part of the services we offer.

Last Thursday, Tracey, Governance Lead and Clerk to the Trustees of the Community Transport Association, was in London to support their AGM and the launch of the D1 Campaign [https://ctauk.org/d1-campaign], engaging with CTA members, MPs and representatives at the House of Commons.

It was also an opportunity to say a fond farewell to Alan Jones as he stepped down after six years as Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Tracey made the most of her time in London, too! After watching a parliamentary session from the public gallery, she enjoyed visits to the V&A Museum and the Natural History Museum on Friday before heading back home to Yorkshire.

Exploring the potential of AI in our work!

Yesterday morning, we had the pleasure of meeting Diane from Evolve3 CIC for an insightful training session on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

We explored practical ways AI can support our work, including structuring responses and working with impact information, while also considering its limitations and the importance of critically assessing the results it produces.

Through hands-on exercises in prompting and evaluating outputs, we gained valuable insights into how AI can be used thoughtfully and effectively in practice.

A big thank you to Diane and Evolve3 CIC for sharing their knowledge and delivering such an engaging session!

Our Annual Strategy Day!

Yesterday, our team came together for our annual Strategy Day, taking time to reflect on our strengths, identify areas for improvement and explore how we can continue to grow over the next 12 months.

Alongside planning for the future, we made time for wellbeing with a little Halloween painting! 👻

A huge thank you to Magna Science Adventure Centre for kindly providing a meeting room for the day, and for the fabulous food. We really appreciate your hospitality!

Today is Gift Aid Awareness Day, so we thought we’d talk about something that can make a surprisingly big difference to charities: ticking that little Gift Aid box.

Last year, HMRC paid £1.7 billion in Gift Aid to charities across the UK. That’s a 7% increase on the year before, with around 67,320 organisations benefiting.

And it isn’t just the big charities that benefit. Around half of that £1.7 billion went to organisations receiving less than £1 million each.

For charities, that extra income can make a real difference. It can help fund projects, support communities, keep services running and ultimately mean more money goes towards the cause.

So next time you’re making a donation and you’re eligible for Gift Aid, don’t forget to tick the box.

It might only take a second, but collectively, those little ticks add up to a huge amount.

Calling all freelance artists!

Are you an artist with a creativity for exploring themes of sports, creativity, leisure, the historic role of welfares? This could be a unique opportunity to help bring the stories of Britain’s mining heritage to life.

Our project, Welfares Reimagined celebrates both the heritage of miners' welfares and their present‑day relevance. Through artist‑led workshops with former mining communities and creative health partners, we're looking for an artist to co‑create a large‑scale banner capturing themes identified by the project’s lived experience Community Panel.
