Happy International Tea Day! Tea is an important part of The Cart Shed's therapeutic support and I'm sure our team and participants contribute to the 34 billion cups of tea drunk in the UK each year - that's 3-4 each, every day.
On arrival each morning, the first thing participants do is brew a cup of tea or coffee before gathering around the fire circle to discuss the day’s activities. Tea can pick us up when we’re tired, refreshes us when we’re thirsty. It is the foundation for delicious afternoon treats and if we’ve experienced a shock a hot sweetened mug of tea is a salve.
Tea is nurturing. Offering to make a drink for someone new to the site gives an instant feeling of welcome and care – the act of giving is an important element in the Five Ways to Wellbeing. Noticing someone’s needs, responding to those needs, caring about their preferences are all acts of kindness that connect us.
So, whether you like yours hot, cold, iced, single variety Darjeeling, bog standard ‘builders’, herbal, strong, weak, sweetened with or without milk, as it's tea time, find a comfy spot and make yourself and someone else a delicious brew!
