Unfortunately one of our speakers had to pull out due health reasons, however we have a superb lady who's stepped up to take her place. Juli Thompson, who'll talk about "Food in Rotary - the missing ingredient". I've heard this talk before and it's brilliant and thought provoking.
Juli is a former chef and teacher, and has spent twenty years working in Bradford on food, community, and what it really means when we say we want to change things. She's the CEO of Inn Churches and the founder of FoodSavers: A unique food model that connects pantries to the credit union partnering with over 40 pantries across West Yorkshire and growing.
But Juli's message goes beyond food banks and pantries. She believes food is the missing ingredient in Rotary's story — a powerful, practical, human way to connect service, health, sustainability and community in one place.
As Food Sustainability and Policy Lead for Rotary District 1040 and Chair of FoodWise Leeds, she's been quietly building the case that Rotary has a unique role to play in food sovereignty not just feeding people in crisis, but helping communities take back control of what they grow, cook, and eat.
