We thought that we are only 2 weeks away from the Great Glengormley Get Together and that we would like to tell you about how it started.
The Community Relations Forum been working in the Lilian Bland Park along with council on Cultural night and then things changed and one of the funders pulled out. At that time there was a lot of anti social behaviour in the park. We had been reading about Jo Cox, the MP who had been murdered. Jo beliefs mirrored a lot of what we believed in too. Inspired by Jo’s vision of a more compassionate and connected society, of working alongside communities to build relationships and community led action, bringing people together to build confidence, support connection and create positive change, well what was the outcome – The Great Glengormley Get Together.
A day of low or no cost for everyone, a day to meet new friends or renew friendships, a day to learn about what is going on in your area or to purchase something of the many stalls that are here too. A chance to talk to the community organisations and find out what they are doing, perhaps find out about the Guides and brownies, the Police and Community Safety Partnership and what they are doing in the Borough, see what the Antrim and Newtownabbey Seniors Forum are up to and soo much more.
We want less lonely, better connected people, where everyone feels that they belong. We started with about 250 people, yes lots of our friends and families and now well,,,, this year we have 25 stalls with lots of information and bargains, plenty for people to see even vintage tractors. So join us on Saturday 12th Sept in Lilian Bland Park at 11am.
Come along and support your community, a day for everyone to feel park of something and what do we ask from you just that you enjoy the day.
