It's Volunteers' Week and we're celebrating Will!

Will has been a dedicated volunteer at Wargrave House School for around three and a half years, joining us two mornings each week. Originally one of our Ascent students formerly LEAP, Will has grown in confidence over time and become an integral part of our team.

Alongside his assistant Lisa, Will plays an important role in carrying out our twice weekly minibus checks, helping ensure everything is safe and running smoothly. But his contribution doesn’t stop there, Will is always ready to lend a hand wherever it’s needed. From painting, carpentry and building furniture, to landscaping tasks like grass cutting, weeding and using the leaf blower, Will approaches every job with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Will is truly an invaluable member of our maintenance team, always going above and beyond to help keep Wargrave House School a safe, welcoming place for all.

Over the past month, we’ve welcomed the NHS Living Well Bus to both Wargrave House School and Ascent College 🩺

Organised by our People and Culture team, staff had the chance to pop in for quick 10-minute health checks with the fantastic nursing team including blood pressure, pulse, cholesterol and BMI checks, as well as signposting to further support where needed.

It’s been great to see so many people focusing on their health and wellbeing, with really positive feedback across both sites.

A big thank you to the NHS team for visiting, we really appreciate you supporting our staff 💙

✨ A day that reminded us why we do what we do

Our Remarkable INSET was filled with connection, reflection and inspiration. A big thank you to BrewDog Stadium for taking such great care of us and the cookies definitely didn’t go unnoticed! 🍪

One of the highlights of the day was hearing from Professor Stephen Heppell. His session challenged us to think differently about the future of education and the opportunities we create for young people. We explored ideas from around the world, got up and moving, and reflected on agency, AI and the environments we learn in. Thank you, Stephen, for sharing your insight, energy and vision with us.

In the afternoon, we created space to listen to and learn from our people. Led by our CEO Robin, staff voice was central to the conversation as we shared ideas and worked together to shape the future of Remarkable.

We asked the office to wear green for Wear It Green Day in support of Mental Health Awareness Week… and did they show up! 💚

It was great to see everyone coming together today to raise awareness and show support for mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

To help encourage a little self-care, all staff members also received a £5 Lifestyle Gift Cards voucher to spend on a coffee, a new book, or simply a small treat - kindly organised by our fabulous People & Culture team (2nd picture).

We’ve had a lottery winner! 🎉

A huge congratulations to one of our lovely supporters, who recently won £50 in the Remarkable Autism lottery!

Here’s what Gayle had to say after finding out she’d won:

“Honestly, I only entered the lottery as a way to support Remarkable Autism and give a little something extra back after my role at Wargrave House School, where I work as an Administrator.
Every day I see the incredible work the staff do with the learners and students, and entering felt like a small way to support that Remarkable effort.

I never expected to actually win anything, so I was genuinely shocked when I got the phone call to say I’d won £50!

For me, the real value of the lottery is knowing it supports such a worthwhile cause, helping autistic people live life to their fullest potential. I’d definitely encourage anyone who can to take part – not because you expect to win, but because of the difference it can make.”
