We would like to take a moment to recognise Medina Marching Band IW who are having a very busy and successful year as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

WightAID granted £3317.60 so that the bands drums could be painted and refurbished, which look fantastic, but they were also able to stretch the money further and purchase new white gloves for the whole band!

So far this year, they have performed at the London New Year’s Day Parade, held their 50th Anniversary Spring Concert featuring a performance from their reunion band, hosted their 50th Anniversary Tattoo at Cowes Enterprise College, attended National Band Week, where they performed at the London Tattoo, followed by the Parade of Bands - marching from Horse Guards Parade up The Mall to Buckingham Palace and back again.

AND now they have recently been invited to take part in the Lord Mayor’s Show in London this November, which will be broadcast live on the BBC.

It has certainly been an exciting and busy year for the band, a huge congratulations to you all.

We’re pleased to say that our lifeboat shop is finally reopening!

Following the rebuild and extension of Freshwater Independent Lifeboat Station, we’ll be opening our doors again on Saturday 17 October, from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

We’ll be back right through until Sunday 1 November, with all your usual favourites, including gifts, souvenirs, lifeboat merchandise and hot and cold drinks.

It’s been a while since we’ve been able to welcome everyone in, so we’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and hopefully a few new ones too!

Pop in, have a browse and a cuppa, and help support your local independent lifeboat.

A huge thank you to Northwood House who very kindly hosted our 10th Anniversary! The team went above and beyond to make sure the day ran smoothly and the wonderful charitable trust kindly put together table flowers which set the scene perfectly for our afternoon tea.

The day was everything we hoped it to be and we thank Ian and his team for creating such a special and welcoming setting to celebrate our 10th year. 💐

Our July grant round saw more than £18,000 distributed to a further six community groups.

This months beneficiaries included Independent Arts, Ventnor Carnival Association, The Getaway Foundation, Two Generations CIC, Disabled Sailors Association and IOW DECA.

A very successful morning connecting the dots on how different groups can work together and support one another.
