Save the Six Bells Peterstone We are a Community Benefit Society trying to save our local pub, The Six Bells, in Peterstone Wentlooge. The site is large and the potential is huge.
(1)

Our aim is to develop this into a Community Hub, with a pub serving fresh food, a daytime cafe, local shop selling local produce and visitor centre. We want to restore the position of the pub at the heart of our community but extend it’s reach and appeal to make it a more viable, more valued business. We envision a multi-functional site with a café and evening pub, a farm shop and visitor information centre and explore options for B&B accommodation. By showcasing local producers and the the area's immense biodiversity, we hope to appeal to commuters, tourists, cyclists, dog walkers, ramblers and bird watchers as well as those who just fancy a pint! This campaign is run by volunteers, if you've got skills that can help - get in touch!

Archie is absolutely buzzing with all the support he’s getting!

The lovely comments, the donations coming in and seeing people getting behind his challenge have been amazing. And it means so much to the team of volunteers at the Six Bells too!

For anyone who hasn’t heard, Archie is just 8 years old and is taking on a sponsored walk up Pen y Fan and down to Pontsticill Reservoir to help us save our village pub.

We would love to keep that support going!

Donate to his GoFundMe if you can - every pound helps. (See link in the comments)

Leave Archie a message of encouragement. His parents can share your lovely words with him, and I know they really mean a lot!

Join him on the walk! Let’s get a Six Bells crew together and show him just how much his efforts mean to our community.

It is a big challenge for such a young lad, and we want him to know that he’s got a whole community cheering him on!

Let’s do this for Archie!

EVERY STEP COUNTS… AND ARCHIE IS PROVING IT!

Sometimes, the things that remind us why we keep fighting for our village pub come from the most unexpected places. 🥰

Meet Archie, who at just 8 years old, has decided he wants to help save the Six Bells!

Archie is planning a sponsored walk up Pen y Fan and down to Pontsticill Reservoir at the end of November to raise money for our campaign. What an amazing challenge for such a young lad! ⛰️👏

And the reason he wants to do it? Well, these are Archie’s own words:

“I’m sad that The Six Bells is still closed because it’s such a cool building. It’s a waste for it to just be sitting there when it could be somewhere for people to go and do things together. I want to help save it so people can use it again.”

An 8-year-old who understands that the Six Bells is more than just a building. It’s somewhere for people to come together, make memories and feel part of their community.

We are so touched that Archie wants to play his part in helping us bring the Six Bells back to life. We are incredibly proud to have him in our corner!

Please show Archie some love by donating to his GoFundMe if you can, and sharing his page to help spread the word. Every donation, no matter how small, will help him on his way to reaching his fundraising goal.

Let’s get behind Archie and cheer him on!

We know only too well how much our village pubs matter. At the Six Bells, we’ve been fighting to bring our village pub back to life for 4.5 years.

We have developed a sustainable model that looks beyond the traditional pub to create a genuine community hub...... bringing people together, supporting wellbeing, celebrating our local environment and creating opportunities for our community.

We have had some fantastic feedback, with people recognising the potential for our model to be replicated across the UK. And that’s encouraging!

But........ it is also frustrating that, despite the hard work of our volunteers, we are still trying to secure the funding we need to buy the Six Bells and make it happen.

Organisations like Plunkett UK are invaluable in supporting communities like ours. We’re incredibly grateful for their advice, expertise and encouragement. 💚

But volunteers can’t do it all alone.

We need accessible funding, practical support and a more joined-up approach from local and national government. Opportunities can vary depending on where a community is based, even though the challenges of saving a rural pub are much the same.

Every year, more pubs disappear. Every year, communities lose places that are about so much more than a pint.

We know what we want to create at the Six Bells. We know there’s a need for it. And we know our model could help other communities do the same.

So let’s make it easier for communities to save their pubs!!!

One of our talented volunteers 🥰 - the amazing Rachel!

I was asked to make a memory blanket from a childs favourite clothes. Well, it grew and grew! 99 patchwork pieces, some patchwork within patchwork to make the most of the images and logos on the garmets.
There are t-shirts, shirts, blankets and even a couple of bucket hats in here somewhere!
Final dimensions are about the same as a single duvet cover so will lay cosy and warm over a single bed. Finished off with a polar fleece backing for ultimate cwtch factor!

A memory blanket can be made to any size you wish and the patch sizes can be adapted to make the most of your treasured garments. I have already been asked for one with running/race/event shirts, although that could be a marathon task 😆🤣.
( sorry, terrible pun!)

No rest for the Six Bells team! 👻🎃

It’s 1st October and we’re already thinking about our next event… our Halloween Spooktacular Coffee Morning on Saturday 31st October!

We are planning to have a bit of fun and make it something a little different.

We have been throwing some ideas around…

Decorated pumpkin competition
Fancy dress
Halloween games & crafts
Guess the sweets / pumpkin weight
A little spooky trail around the village
Halloween cakes and treats
A spooky photo corner
And maybe even a Halloween disco ….get the music on and everyone up dancing!

We could have a few prizes, a raffle and perhaps a spooky story corner for some Peterstone tales and legends.

Our talented bakers have already been suggesting ideas for some spooky bakes and Sewing Solutions by Rachel is up for leading a Halloween craft corner.

Nothing too complicated or expensive. Just a chance to get kids, parents, grandparents and our regulars all involved.

But these are just ideas so far…

What do you think?
Have we missed anything?
What would you love to see at our Halloween?

And if you fancy getting involved and helping make it happen…. Even better
