Newport parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 9am in the grounds of Tredegar House. It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come

together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE! Taking part is easy – just register in advance by 6pm on the Friday before your first ever parkrun here. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! After the run, if you don’t have to get off straight away, there will be the chance to socialise with everyone at Brewhouse Café in the main courtyard of Tredegar House, to maybe swap stories about your run that day, chat to other runners over a cup of tea or coffee and just be an important part of this new running community. So whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, you’re welcome to come along and join us.

On Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June…

This weekend parkrun will host its 1 millionth ever event. Come and celebrate this with us on Saturday 🎉🎉 whether you walk, run (or a bit of both) or volunteer you are all part of this amazing community. I wonder which one will technically be the 1 millionth event, will it be us 🤔

Since the first event in 2004, people have gone through a finish funnel 138 million times, with over 200,000 of those were at Newport parkrun, and people have volunteered on more than 16 million occasions 🙌

parkrun is a charity that believes in the power of community, empowering people through shared movement, every weekend. Every year more and more people sign up and experience the community that parkrun inspires so come and celebrate this awesome milestone with us this weekend.

There are still a few opportunities to pace on Saturday. We still need pacers for 31, 33 and 35 - any takers?

There are also a couple of opportunities to volunteer if you would prefer to not walk or run. Handing out finishes tokens (it’s a great role to do, seeing the satisfaction of those finishing), barcode scanning or funnel manager. Next Saturday, is the first Saturday of the month so that means… it’s Pacer week at Newport parkrun, whoop, whoop.

If you would like to pace, please choose a time, approx. 2 mins slower than your average parkrun time and add you name to the Google spreadsheet. If you can’t open it, add a comment below and we’ll add you. Be quick to get your preferred time.

Pacer times range from 20 through the 60, with the new paces for us of 40 and 45.
