Congratulations to Aberdeenshire farmer Nicola Wordie who has tonight been presented with the Fordyce Maxwell Award for exceptional communications.
Nicola Livestock_farmher was delighted to receive the award announced by Dougie Vipind of BBC Landward at the SRUC reception at the Royal Highland Show tonight. She said her aim (via her social media content) is to give a realistic insight into farming - the good and the not-so-good experiences of farming life.
Also pictured is Dr Kate Richards, who takes over the reins of SRUC Chair this month and new Cab Sec Gillian Martin, who recognised the industry’s resilience and innovation - and also remincised on her days with a student job checking tickets at the show gate.

“Stand up for what you believe in….Passion is powerful and if you are prepared to speak up, armed with facts and intergrity you can and will drive change.”
Powerful and inspiring words at the Women in Agriculture breakfast at the Royal Highland Show, from Lauren Houston of Glenkilrie Larder. Lauren talked about her journey and total determination to improve the meal choices on the menus of schools in Tayside, notably a reduction of ultra processed meat substitute meals.
Many thanks to Women in Agriculture Scotland for kindly inviting our CEO Carol to speak at the event chaired expertly by Cora Cooper.

RHASS President Pat Machray is urging everyone at the Royal Highland Show to be aware of the importance of acting quickly if you, or a friend or family member, have symptoms of prostate cancer.
Pat, along with fellow Aberdeenshire farmer Bert Maitland, is keen to share his own experience of prostate cancer and his journey back to full health to help increase awareness of the disease which one in 8 men will get in their lifetime. The message is early action saves lives. Many thanks Pat. ❤️

Sadly, many Scottish farming families working in the pig sector are now facing incredibly difficult decisions about the future viability of their businesses and we’re reminding farmers and farm workers that support is available.
We know the combination of financial pressures, uncertainty about the future and the emotional strain of the current market situation can take a heavy toll and RSABI is keen to reassure those affected - including families producing pigs for 40 or 50 years - that they do not need to cope alone.
If you are struggling and feeling overwhelmed, please talk to someone and remember RSABI is here for you too, and the sooner you reach out to us the sooner we can start to help ease some of that burden.
Our 24/7 Helpline is 0808 1234 555. Please don’t hesitate to call us. ❤️
