The Castle Sands Pool Restoration Project is officially underway!

Good news. Just wanted to give you an update on the Castle Sands Tidal Pool Restoration project.

The handrail will be installed on the right hand side of the top section of the steps leading to the beach starting from Tuesday 06/10/26.

The construction company will fence sections off while they work, but the steps will remain open throughout with access to the Tidal Pool.

Please make yourselves aware of any warning signs and to take care whilst going down and then back up the steps.

We are still working hard to obtain the Licence of Works from Fife Council which will enable us to start the restoration of the Tidal pool and will keep you updated with the progress.

St Andrews Environmental Network Well done and thankyou to all our volunteers for delivering this service. This must be over 1000 St Andrews Beach Wheelchairs customers this year. Hope you’ve all enjoyed the beach

July has been our busiest month to date!

105 people enjoyed accessing the West Sands through the use of our beach wheelchairs 👨‍🦽‍➡️

This has meant that lots of various groups including family, friends, care homes and various other groups have been able to access the beach together without anyone being excluded!

Our St Andrews Beach Wheelchairs which runs very successfully with almost 900 uses so far this season would not be possible without the St Andrews Environmental Network BID St Andrews Clean & Green Team.

Before the streets fill with shoppers, golfers and visitors, the St Andrews Clean & Green team is already tackling ripped refuse bags, fly-posters and other overnight problems most people never see. Read more: https://ebx.sh/32RyIF

It was a wonderful morning celebrating Hamish McHamish and supporting the restoration of the Castle Sands Tidal Pool.

Every copy sold helps raise funds for The Hamish Foundation, books are available at Waterstones St Andrews and The Dook at West Sands!

Great news for St Andrews 🌊

Castle Sands tidal pool is set to be restored after funding was agreed by North East Fife Area Committee to support the project.

A £10,000 contribution from the St Andrews Common Good Fund will help bring the much-loved pool back into use as part of a wider community-led project. Planned improvements include repairs to the pool walls and steps, upgrades to the sluice gate, and new safety features to make the space safer and more accessible.

Once complete, the tidal pool will be free and open to everyone, creating a welcoming spot for outdoor swimming, relaxation and enjoying the coastline, while supporting wellbeing and attracting visitors.
