⛱️ Hoylake Beach Update ⛱️

What a morning. What a fight.

This has always been a resident-powered campaign, and Cllr Max and Cllr Andrew were proud to stand with David Cooke in court this morning as he brought his case against Wirral Council over access along Hoylake Beach - particularly the slipways.

The judge decided to allocate the case to the fast track, despite the council’s barrister attempting to place a number of ludicrous hurdles in the way during today’s initial hearing, which determines how the case should proceed.

Huge credit to David for the incredible work he’s put in - not just today in court, but over the weeks and months leading up to this moment. We will always stand alongside our residents.

The Judge said the case was not as complicated as the council had suggested and noted that the matter is clearly in the public interest, telling the court:

“It’s important. It’s important not only to the council, but also to those who live in or visit the area.”

Many residents will have received an early consultation document from Peak Cluster.

Tonight, we had a presentation from Peak Cluster. Much detail remains to be established, and we will closely monitor events as they unfold as we have major concerns on the plans.

Broadly, it would appear that any above-ground works will be in the area of the old brickworks. (Please note: the shaded area on the map indicates the scope, not the size of the works).

We will report back as we learn more and would urge all residents to engage with the consultation process.

The decision on this will be the responsibility of the Secretary of State - Ed Miliband so we really do need everyone to engage.
