Good Things were at Lancaster Art Fair last at the weekend with our pop up ‘Creativity Cafe’ We wanted to showcase some ideas about our upcoming cafe with some creative activities and refreshments. We had an incredibly wholesome day, meeting you all, chatting about the cafe and getting creative!

The workshops included a ‘donate a recipe’ workshop, where folk could donate a recipe to the cafe by designing a recipe card. You could donate a food recipe or a recipe for something non-food like a recipe for a perfect Sunday afternoon. We got some amazing results from a recipe for successful charity shopping to a post-natal recovery crumble and custard.

We also had an embroidery workshop where you could contribute a design for a collective tapestry we hope to display in our cafe, with plenty of beautiful results there too!

Along side this we were also serving home-made cordials made from foraged ingredients and delicious vegan and allergen free brownie.

Thanks so much to Charlotte and Jack for coming up with and running the workshops and to Glen for creating and serving the delicious refreshments, and to everyone who came along and took part!

Thanks to closing loops / FoodFutures: North Lancashire for supporting the development of our upcoming community cafe

Excellent question. We don’t necessarily fit the picture many folk have of Collective members: our medium isn’t sculpture, or sewing, or any of the many other media used by the fabulously creative Good Things members. Our medium is humans.Bear with me - it’s not as weird as it sounds! Primaril...

You're doing great - yes, yes you really are!

How do I know? Because you're HERE - no small feat. And because time and time and TIME again I see success in people around me that they scarcely know exists.

If you're having a good day already: HURRAH! I'm here celebrating with you :)

If you're having a not so good day: I'm genuinely really sorry about that. You know what works for you - but if you haven't already reached for "phone a friend*" support it's a route I highly recommend. Clinical challenge? Feel free to get in touch with the Company - we'll always do what we can to help.

And remember: you, yes You. Are. Doing. Great.

* Obvs not just phoning, texting or seeing in person, are also great. Pigeon post might be a bit slow but still an option (possibly...)

From the Collective Kitchen.

As we continue developing our community café, a new way of working has naturally emerged – one that feels deeply rooted in who we are and how we want to share food with our community.

Collective meal making from community cooks and chefs within the Collective is about bringing people together to create nourishing meals using surplus ingredients alongside local, seasonal produce. Together we experiment with recipes, share skills, reduce food waste and celebrate the abundance that already exists around us.

This practice is also a return to our roots. Many of you will remember the slow-cooked, one-pot meals that came from our tiny kitchen on West Street. Those meals brought people together around the table, and we're excited to carry that spirit forward through a regular Community Pot of the Day on the new cafe.

By cooking collectively, we can keep meals affordable, reduce barriers to good food, and make sure everyone is welcome to enjoy wholesome food prepared with love, care and purpose. Rather than relying on the high-pressure, fast-paced model that often defines traditional cafés and commercial kitchens, we're creating a way of working that shares responsibility, values learning and connection, and makes the act of preparing food something that nourishes the people cooking it as much as those eating it.

Food has always been about more than eating. It's about connection, creativity, sharing stories and building community. ❤️

We're excited to keep growing this practice together.

Huge thanks to FoodFutures: North Lancashire and Growing Well Kendal.

A day well spent at the brilliant Growing Well Kendal 🌱

We came away inspired by what's possible when growing food, caring for people, and looking after the land are all part of the same story. It was a chance to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from an organisation that has been creating meaningful opportunities through nature for many years.

These visits remind us that connection, conversation and ollaboration is one of the most powerful tools we have. By learning from others, we can strengthen what we're building in Morecambe and create even more opportunities for our community to connect, learn and thrive.

A huge thank you to everyone at for your generosity, openness and warm welcome. We can't wait to continue the conversation.

And a huge thanks to for investing in and supporting our community cafe dream.

A lot of the artists in our collective have been working on Game of Shrooms this year. Game of Shrooms is a yearly, world-wide, collaborative, art movement. On June 13th 2026 artists all over the world will hide their own ‘mushroom themed’ original artworks out in public for people to go and find and keep. We’re opening our doors on Saturday June 13th for anyone who is, or wants to get involved with Game of Shrooms! We’ll be providing a hub for people to come and meet in between ‘shroom hunting’ sessions around Morecambe, enjoy some home made mushroom soup and just generally get involved with the day. There’s plenty of family friendly fun to be had!

Sat 13th June, 1-4pm
3, Northumberland Street, Morecambe, LA4 4AU

* Due to continued building works we will only be opening the front two studios of our building for this event which is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your continued patience as we work towards building a more inclusive and accessible community hub in the future!

What it takes to build a community café…
Paint on hands. Dust in the air.
Sanding, de-nailing, degreasing.
Lifting, shifting, sorting.
People showing up. Again and again.
This is what “community” looks like — not just ideas, but action. Time, care, graft, lots of biscuits yet surprisingly few brew breaks in between!

We’re building something together here, and every bit of effort matters.

Thank you to everyone who’s mucked in so far and being part of this story. Check out 'what's on' page for upcoming muck-in sessions or get on touch to arrange another time

Join us for this months Studio Kids run by Ellie Barrett!

Testing out our brand new MakeDo kit, we’ll be experimenting with cardboard using child-safe cardboard saws and screws. Come along and build the cardboard city of your dreams… There will also be a quieter making space involving some drawing and collaging.
