A costume is something you wear to pretend to be someone else. A suit is what you wear to do your job.

And when I'm wearing my suit, my job is to protect a very specific, very fragile thing:

Belief.

Did someone say its only 231 more sleeps🤣

⭐️Lights Update⭐️

Apologies firstly for the long winded post, but ill keep it as short as i can.

Last year we were to be extending the Christmas light display, by putting another string across the street, between Sher e Bangla and Highland Scene. This was all planned, and a pole was due to be installed by the council around October 2025. That failed to materialise, and we were promised it would be installed before the switch on in November. That didn't happen either.

We were then advised that the pole had structural damage and wasn't suitable.
The pole was the same at the 4 mermaid poles that run down the middle of the High Street already. They were all refurbished about 12 years ago, however the 5th one has been lying in a yard in Forfar since then.
Many of you may remember that about 15 years ago there was a string of lights went across the road at this location, but it was withdrawn as Tayside Contracts (who installed the lights at that time) were quoting around £2700 per year to install, maintain & dismantle this one string. So the refurbished pole was surplus to requirements.

I've been on the case for a wee while, and found that there was still money sitting allocated to it, and that's where we got to last year.
We even had lights purchased for it, so we were disappointed when it didn't happen.

Moving on to where we are now........

The council has advised that they could get a pole for carrying the strings of lights, but also say the money that is sitting allocated to it, would fall short, as it was more or less to cover installation of it.
They have suggested that we ask the Montrose Common Good Fund to support the shortfall.

Obviously I would be keen to do that, but I can take no part in that decision, as I have a conflict of interest, being one of the 4 councillors for the town.

The council are now going to contact the 3 other Montrose Councillors to ask if they would support using Common Good Funds to assist.

We're keeping oor fingers crossed they will consider supporting it.

Huge thank you to Ian Campbell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, for taking a detour via Glenrothes to collect our Angel after a complete refurbishment. The wings now have sparkling lights, and are back to being white again🎅.

Thanks also to Susan Ogilvie.

Lovely surprise tonight.

Mrs Ligertwood visited us to present us with a cheque for £300 from the proceeds of her knitting.

An absolutely wonderful gesture, which we will put towards the refurbishment of Natasha's Angel. While we generally do most of our refurbishments in house, we felt that the Angel deserved bit of extra sparkle, so is currently in Fife at our Christmas Lights supplier, who are undertaking the works for us.

Once again, thanks to Mrs Ligertwood for this fantastic donation.
