Wow what a scorcher of a day ☀️ this morning we split up with some members enjoying a fun morning with children from Ferryden Nursery icing cakes and listening to stories 🧁

Gemma, Mary & Moira headed out to the community garden to meet Kerry who had some planting jobs for them to do - we also had time for a chat and iced coffee in the sun!

After lunch we were joined by some of the team from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to show us photos and videos from our performance last week and gather some feedback - it was lovely to have them back, we will really miss our sessions with them.

We started the week with celebrating our lead support worker Jane’s birthday. Not long now until Jane is with us full time!
Some of the members got their imagination fired up helping Kylie with our Montrose Sculpture while Jane got the others moving with exercises, dancing and lots of riddles.💭

After lunch we had a physical afternoon of dancing to Mike Mcewan, even Grant got his dancing shoes on!

Our amazing volunteers today were: Gary, Grant, Sheila and Mundy.

This morning we had rompers nursery in with some sensory bags, the children told the members what they could feel and see and the members wrote it down.

We had our lunch table decorated for another big game tonight Scotland, Ewan Winter then came in to give us an afternoon full of music and dancing.

It was Agnes’s birthday yesterday and her daughter kindly donated us loads of cakes from Frosts the baker, they were very much enjoyed. 🧁

What a truly special day…

Today, we had the privilege of sharing the songs we have learned over the past eight weeks as part of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s Generations Project.

From the very first session, this project has brought so much joy, confidence, friendship and laughter to our group. Through music, we have connected with one another, built wonderful relationships with Lochside school pupils, and created memories that will stay with us for a long time.

Today’s performance alongside the RSNO string quartet and Dundee choir embodied community spirit in the most wholesome way. Seeing everyone come together to sing, support one another and celebrate what we have achieved was incredibly moving.

We cannot thank David from the RSNO enough for his time, patience and encouragement throughout the project. He has been an amazing teacher, and our members have loved every second of this incredible opportunity.

There were smiles, proud moments and a few happy tears along the way – a perfect reflection of what this journey has meant to us all.

Here is a little snippet from today’s concert, performing the beautiful Travel These Ways 🎶

We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed singing it. 💜

💙 Carers Week 💙

This week marks Carers Week (8–14 June), an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness of the UK's 6 million unpaid carers, recognising the enormous contribution they make every day, and highlighting the need for greater support.

This year's theme is Building Carer-Friendly Communities - encouraging workplaces, healthcare services, schools, local authorities and communities to better recognise, value and support carers.

At Montrose Connections, we see first-hand the dedication, love and resilience of family carers supporting someone living with dementia. Many of our carers are balancing multiple responsibilities; working, raising children, caring for grandchildren, managing households and supporting a loved one through the daily challenges that dementia brings.

The pressure to be everything to everyone can be overwhelming. Too often, carers experience exhaustion, isolation, declining health and burnout while putting the needs of others before their own.

This Carers Week, we want to shine a light on the incredible role carers play and recognise the importance of ensuring they receive the support, understanding and respite they deserve.

We hope that our Meeting Centre provides not only meaningful opportunities for people living with dementia, but also some much-needed time for carers to rest, recharge and focus on their own wellbeing.

To all our carers: thank you. Your compassion, patience and commitment make a difference every single day, and you are truly valued by all of us at Montrose Connections. 💙
