Founded in 1842 one of Scotland’s first purpose-built museums visitors can explore art works, local history, natural history, and maritime history collections. Founded in 1842 by Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society, Montrose Museum was built in a neo-classical style with ionic columns at the entrance, inspired by Greek temples of learning, inside the galleries display an incredible ar
ray of artefacts from the earliest archaeological finds to the Marquis of Montrose and the Jacobite uprisings, through to contemporary maritime history. One of Scotland’s first purpose-built museums, three large galleries offer the opportunity to explore local history, natural history, and maritime history collections. A beautiful art gallery provides space for changing contemporary art exhibitions. We have museums in Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose, plus galleries in Arbroath and Carnoustie Libraries which have fascinating displays of objects and photographs relating to the life and work in Angus. Behind the scenes there is a wealth of local history, archaeology, natural history and geology. Our Collections can be searched online at https://angusalive.adlibhosting.com/home
