A major focus for Safe Anchor Trust is to support organisations that require social and recreational activities to maintain or improve the health of their users. Safe Anchor relies solely on voluntary contributions and donations for our service, for which it is extremely grateful. We are proud that all our work is underpinned by voluntary effort, and every penny contributed goes directly to suppor

t the service we provide. We operate four cruise boats, two are narrow boats, The Lady Rhodes and Lady Victoria and two wide beam boats, Safe Anchor Lady and E Austen Johnson. The boats are fully equipped and have facilities for the less able. All our boats are skippered by qualified skippers, all of whom have undergone Disclosure & Barring Service checks.

📢 Mirfield’s best-kept secret? Not for much longer...

Some people have called Safe Anchor Trust one of the area’s best-kept secrets, which is lovely, but it also made us think... maybe it’s time we stopped being quite so secret.

Recently, Kirklees Local TV visited us and made a lovely video about who we are, what we do, and the brilliant volunteers who make it all happen.

So if you don’t know us yet, now’s the perfect time.

Watch the video, share it with a friend, and help us spread the word about Safe Anchor Trust.

Because good things happening in our community shouldn’t stay under wraps. 💙

It's hard to fit all our volunteers in a single picture!!!

But with it's the perfect time in the year to shed a spotlight on the team and every person that for over 30 years now supports every boat trip, maintains the areas around the marina, and alongside the canal and river, keeps the cafe busy, and many many more jobs that happen behind the scenes.

Your time, dedication and care are what makes Safe Anchor great. 🩷🩷🩷

💙⚓ Celebrating Volunteers’ Week at Safe Anchor Trust ⚓💙

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge thank you to every single person who gives their time, energy, skills and kindness to Safe Anchor Trust.

As a 100% volunteer run charity, we simply could not do what we do without our amazing team. From helping on the boats, supporting our environmental work, welcoming visitors in the café, keeping things running behind the scenes, and so much more, every role makes a real difference.

And we are always happy to welcome new faces.

Have you ever thought about volunteering in your local community? Maybe you have a few hours to spare, want to learn something new, meet new people, or be part of something meaningful.

At Safe Anchor Trust, there really is a place for everyone.

You could help us run the boats, with full accredited training provided, join our environmental team, support the café, or help with the admin side of the charity.

Whatever your skills, experience or availability, we would love to hear from you.

This Volunteers’ Week, why not take that first step and find out how you could get involved?

Get in touch with Safe Anchor Trust and come and be part of our wonderful volunteer family. 💙⚓

What a way to celebrate than engaging with new people?!

We have recently posed a challenge to the group of iGrow Green Careers programme students at Lancaster University on how we can get more young people to engage with volunteering.

They will be presenting their ideas and solutions tomorrow and from their engagement in the session we know it will be hard to pick only one winner.

We will be posting some of their ideas soon 🙂

It’s Volunteers’ Week! 💙⚓

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible power of volunteering, and here at Safe Anchor Trust, that means everything to us.

We are proud to be a 100% volunteer-run charity, and every trip, every warm welcome, every cuppa served, every bit of admin, every environmental project, and every moment on the water happens because people generously give their time.

Have you been thinking about doing something for your local community? Volunteers’ Week is the perfect time to take that first step.

At Safe Anchor Trust, we have a place for everyone. You could:

âš“ Help us run our boats, full accredited training is provided
🌿 Join our environmental team
☕ Support our café
📋 Help with the admin side of the charity
💙 Bring your own skills, time, and enthusiasm to a cause that makes a real difference

Whether you can offer a few hours, a regular commitment, or simply want to find out more, we’d love to hear from you.

Come and be part of something special. Help us keep Safe Anchor Trust moving, welcoming, and making a difference in our community.

Interested in volunteering with us? Get in touch, there’s a place for you at Safe Anchor Trust. 💙⚓

We’re proud to share that our work has been featured in Living with Disability Magazine.

At the heart of what we do is a simple belief: everyone should have the chance to enjoy time on the water, feel welcome, and be part of something.

Disability can make many everyday experiences more difficult, and too often people face barriers that stop them from taking part. That’s why we’re so pleased to be able to offer accessible canal boat trips for everybody who may feel excluded from opportunities like this.

Our boats are designed to be accessible, and we continue to use equipment and support that helps make trips more comfortable and enjoyable for people with a wide range of disabilities and needs.

Inclusion matters to us not only for those who join us on trips, but also within our volunteer team. Some of our volunteers live with disabilities themselves, and their experience, kindness and understanding are a valued part of what makes our charity so special.

We’re grateful to Living with Disability Magazine for helping shine a light on the importance of accessible experiences and on the difference that a welcoming, inclusive space can make.
