Had an amazing day on Saturday with our International Afternoon celebrating cultural diversity and promoting better understanding of people from other nations. Some excellent presentations from India, Iran, Afghanistan, Nigeria and DRC.

Today is World Refugee Day. We recognise that everyone has the right to seek safety from war, famine and persecution. Let us be more compassionate to those who, through no fault of their own, face displacement.

Yesterday, 19 June, was UN Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. As Soroptimists we condemn all forms of sexual violence. Sexual violence against children in war zones is especially horrifying.

It was good to hear today of the remarkable success of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer. 200 lives saved. We continue to promote the importance of both cervical screening and HPV vaccination, especially amongst underprivileged groups.
