We would like to pay tribute to former Mickleover councillor John Keith, who has passed away.

We have very fond memories of John, who was a lovely person and well liked by residents. He was not just a colleague, but a friend.

He contributed so much to the Mickleover community as a councillor from 2011 to 2019, having also previously served as a borough councillor for Normanton Ward in the 1970s and a city councillor for Blagreaves Ward in the 1980s. He also served as Derby’s Mayor in the early 1990s, which included accompanying Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to reopen the refurbished Queen’s Street Leisure Centre.

John also held many roles outside the council throughout his life, supporting communities and good causes across Derby.

He will be greatly missed.

He was a wonderfully kind person and, above all else, a devoted family man. Our thoughts are with John’s wife Andrea, daughters Sarah and Emma, and his five grandchildren.

For a couple of months now, we’ve been working hard across the ward…

👍 From helping with Our Mickleover flower planting across the ward to tidying and refreshing the village, Devonshire Drive and Silverhill district centres.

💪 Work is also continuing on the councillor / Our Mickleover / Derby College Mickleover Comminity Centre garden refurbishment project.

👉 We want to keep Mickleover looking its best - alongside our council duties and resident casework.

South Derbyshire District Council (SDDC) are consulting again on their Local Plan which includes the huge housing development south of Mickleover (The Hollow / Staker Lane), and a smaller site north of Mickleover (Radbourne Lane).

👉 This is a last minute “addendum” prior to government making a decision on the plan. The ‘tweaks’ attempt to:

• Tighten policies
• Add detail on delivery & infrastructure
• Cement their case for hosuinh sites

🤔 Why now? - we have always maintained that SDDC rushed the plan through before new national rules - in our view they are now ‘patching it up’ to increase the chances of it passing governement inspection.

This is an unexpected additional chance to comment before it goes to a Government Inspector, just weeks from now. However, this ‘extra’ consultation only concerns ‘legal compliance’ of the plan - not general objections.

Following our two previous extensive submissions to the previous consultation, we have submitted further comments and challenges to SDDC. These are written specifically for the government inspector to consider. You can read them below.👇

◾️ There is a consultation drop in event being held by SDDC tomorrow (Tuesday May 12th) at Mickleover Court Hotel, 4pm to 7pm.

On VE Day, we remember the moment in 1945 when the war in Europe ended with the unconditional surrender of N**i Germany.

The village Union Flag flies today in honour of all who served and all who were lost.

We remember them with gratitude and pride.
