From newly created wetland scrapes to ponds already holding water, these aerial photos show just some of the natural flood management work taking shape across the Rea Brook catchment.

Working with local landowners, we’ve now:
🌳 Planted more than 3 hectares of native woodland.
💧 Created over 5 hectares of wetland habitat.
🪵 Installed around 70 leaky dams to help slow the flow.

By holding water higher up in the landscape, projects like these can help reduce flood risk downstream while creating valuable habitat for wildlife at the same time.

“Here in Britain and Ireland, we have some of the loveliest rivers in the world.”

For generations, Sir David Attenborough has helped people see that.

Not just as scenery, but as living systems full of movement, connection and life. Kingfishers flashing through the reeds, salmon pushing upstream, otters weaving through dark water.

As he once said, “Fresh water is the lifeblood of our natural world, connecting all our wildlife.”

Yet today, less than half of our rivers are in good health, while freshwater wildlife populations globally have declined by 83% in the last 50 years.

Still, one thing Sir David has always reminded us is that nature is resilient. Rivers can recover when given the chance 💧

Happy 100th birthday, and thank you for helping generations fall in love with the natural world.
