🎄 Festival Friends: Home-Start South Leicestershire

We’re delighted to have Home-Start South Leicestershire joining us for the Christmas Tree Festival again this year.

Home-Start supports families across the Harborough District with young children, offering friendship, practical help and emotional support when family life becomes difficult. Their volunteers help parents build confidence and give their children the best possible start in life.

It’s lovely to have this important local charity represented in our Winter Wonderland at St Dionysius once again.

The Festival runs from Friday 27 November to Tuesday 1 December, with decorated trees, live music throughout, and plenty to enjoy for visitors of all ages. 🎄

💜🧡 We celebrated the past financial year with a great turn out for our 42nd AGM this week: An opportunity for staff, trustees, volunteers and members of the community to get together to reflect on our achievements 🧡💜

💜 Our fantastic Chair of Trustees for the past 5 years, Judy Hartland, officially passed the baton to Darren Carter, who will oversee the work of the charity going forward. Judy will remain on the Board, and we thank her for her contribution to Home-Start South Leics, having been involved as a volunteer in some capacity for 20 years... and counting! 🤗

🧡 We also celebrated the work of Charlotte Sandford and Nicky Bell, two of our highly valued staff team, who are moving on to pastures new 👋😭👏

💜 Our guest contributor, Kieran Anders, Coordinator of -StartUK project, Dad Matters, spoke beautifully about the work of the project supporting dads in their parenting journey, including the often challenging area of mental health. Our Home-Start neighbour, Home-Start Horizons, has received funding to deliver Dad Matters in Leicestershire, with the support of Leicestershire and Rutland Home-Starts, including HSSL.

😬 Tough fact: Small charities like ours are finding it harder than ever to sustain our services, due to the competition for grants being tougher than ever.
🥳 Big wins: We continue to successfully support vulnerable and isolated families- 120 last year, train and retain volunteers, apply for funding and organise community fundraisers.

Family is at the heart of and we are all extremely proud to be part of this 💜🧡
